Thanks everyone! She has met the minimum requirement and is set! Contest ends May 1, 2014 and I've still got a ways to go to reach my $10,000 goal. Per Emotiva: "All forum members who make a donation of minimum $25.00 will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win $500.00 Emotiva Gift Certificate And .... Any forum member that donates $100 or more, will be entered in an additional drawing for a chance to win $1000.00 Emotiva Gift Certificate Contest ends May 1, 2014 . We will announce the winner on this forum thread!"Go here to make a donation: main.diabetes.org/goto/derekwayland2014 By the way, I'm not here to guilt ANYONE into giving to this cause. If you support me and choose to give to this cause, then please do so cheerfully and with a happy heart and no guilt. If you choose not to give, or can't afford to give, that's no problem at all! Support comes in many forms. Pray for us, root for us, volunteer locally. Do what feels right to you! Heck, I can't afford to give, due to many factors, so I am choosing to ride 208 miles and put myself out there in other ways, such as PSA's and web interviews. I'm doing what I can, I just hope it's enough.Thank you all again for everything you all have done for us! Derek I quoted myself so that you don't have to dig to find out the details regarding the drawing. :-) Thanks for all the support! Good luck on the drawing! It's ending next week... Derek

Just a final reminder that the drawing for the Emotiva gift certificates ends this Thursday! Good luck and please consider making a donation. My daughter had Prom last night and here's what we did to hid her Insulin Pump. It worked great! Thanks! Derek

TTT! We're approaching the final hours. If you haven't donated yet, now is the time! I rarely donate to things like this, simply because there are so many good causes out there and my wallet just isn't large enough to support every one of them. However, this one is a bit different. Derek and his family have been around here for a while and they are great folks. It's much easier to support someone you know in cases like this. I feel more invested in the event than simply mailing a check to a large charity corporation. This is my second year supporting Derek, Bemi, and the cause. For anyone else still on the fence: if you donate to only one charity or fundraising event this year, consider making it this one. Good luck, Derek. Looking forward to your ride in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the support and kind words.
Ok folks, today is the day and in more ways than one. The contest ends today and...
Seven years ago today, diabetes nearly claimed the life of our daughter. It was an especially emotional night for her tonight, as memories if that day came flooding back as she looked thru pictures taken around the time of her diagnoses. She was a bit embarrassed as how much it was affecting her, but that was the day her life changed forever.
Thanks again for all of your support. I wish I could tell you just how much it truly means to us.
Derek

Thanks again everyone! With your help, we have raised over $4,000.00!!! Thank you!!! I have sent the list of Emotiva Forum member donation off to Emotiva! Good luck!!! If I happen to get in any late donations, I'd be happy to forward your contact info in to Emotiva prior to the official drawing. :-) As a little side note: I'd thought I'd share a little something my daughter wrote yesterday on her Facebook page yesterday. "Every May 1st I write about how I lived another year with diabetes and today i went looking for a picture from my diagnosis and realized that I had never seen this set of pictures before. Seeing them brought back memories and emotions that i had pushed far out of my mind. I talk about my diabetes with everyone but I never realized how much I had been holding in from the day of my diagnosis. I vividly remember everything that happened that day, what I was wearing, who I spoke with and my very sick days prior. This is a picture of me when I was 10 years old 1 week before I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Diabetes is something I, and many other people will have for the rest of our lives, there is nothing we could have done to prevent it and no we are not contagious. Diabetes has been a part of my life every single second of every single day for the past 7 years, and it needs to be cured."Bemi Wayland My how she has grown into such a worderfull young lady.

FYI: Via my TdC Donation web site, I have access to all logged donations, names and emails and that's the information I provide to Emotiva for the drawing.
Bottom line, if you donated online, you are included in the drawing. :-)
I just wanted to clarify just in case anyone was wondering how I get the info to Emotiva.

The Tour de Cure is THIS WEEKEND! Am I ready??? Been working waaaaaay too much and training way to little, but I'll give it my all, of that you can be certain! I'm still accepting donations and since Emotiva had not yet drawn a winner, I'd be happy to include any qualifying donations made today in the drawing! I'll just email Emotiva an updated donation list. :-)Thanks again for all the support!!!! See THIS LINK for info from Cathy Laufman regarding the Emotiva Gift Certificate drawing! "Derek and The Waylands" Click on the link in my Sig below to make a donation to the Tour de Cure.

Chad Chad, Sorry about your cold weather Walk's. I'm sure it makes everyone walk a bit faster though. :-) The weather this weekend is supposed to be, partly cloudy, 0% chance of rain and 75deg. with 5-10mph winds. All in all, perfect weather for a ride! Last year the ride ended up with bad storms on Sunday, so it looks like this year will be much better for both days. I can't wait!!! It's going to be excruciatingly awesome! ;-)

It's going to be excruciatingly awesome! ;-) That is awesome, it's the wind and wind gusts that are a killer when riding, now that the snow is gone I'm getting back into riding but it has been trying at times, I have two commuters, one is an old 90's Rocky Mountain Fusion which I have converted to a single speed and the second is a Rocky Mountain Metropolis YUL and I have a trailer I pull for my 3.5 year old daughter and this spring as yielded a few rides of 40kmh winds with rain with temps of only +6 or so which is alright but makes for a lot more spent energy haha. Best of luck this weekend for you and your daughter, hopefully one day a cure can be found for Bemi, my nephew Brandon and all others with Diabetes. Chad
