I've just brought my Vienna Acoustics Bachs downstairs, and replaced the Ascend CBM-170s that were previously doing front L/R duty. The Bachs have very different voicing than the CMT-340 center channel, but I think that will be fixed when I run REW.
My questions:
1. Is it safe to mix 4 and 8 ohm speakers with the XPA5-G2? 2. Is my setup "normal"? I want to have the best speakers for stereo listening, but when I'm watching a 5.1 movie I don't want them to stand out.
Thanks, John

1. Perfectly fine to mix them. Even speakers in the same series will have different impedance (ohms) at different frequencies. 2. You'll have to use your ears and decide if it sounds good to YOU. It's your system, if it sounds great to your ears that's all that matters.

Vienna's are some very nice speakers. You shouldn't have any issues using different impedance speakers with the XPA-5. Enjoy your new setup.

Thanks. They sound great to me; I'm enjoying all of the stereo surround modes on the 7030. The Bachs are no slouch on the low end, but the sub pulls its weight when I listen to "Can and Brahms" from Yes's "Fragile" DVD-Audio. Great reference audio disc, BTW.
The biggest surprise is how good some of my 35-year-old cassette tapes sound (I was a library music pirate in 1978, not any more though). I haven't played these tapes in ages, and they're coming alive with the 7030 and the XPA-5. Some sound good enough to digitize.
