Nick,
What software do you plan to use to play back the files?
Do you plan to also play these files on any portable devices?
HD Tracks is a great place for high res downloads. Also take a look at the new BD-Audio discs being released by UMG. They have a nice wide variety of launch titles, and they will play back on any blu-ray player.

All my apple lossless in iTunes when run through the oppo appears to be up sampled when sent to the dc1. The rate is showing 88.1 on the display when I know it is 16/44

Superhirez.com is an extension of Acousticsounds.com and they sell a number of downloadable formats including DSD. HDTracks also sells hi res downloads but no DSD. And you have to be careful with what you buy. There are a lot of poorly recorded works that don't get any better just because they get converted to hi res. They still sound bad but now high resolution bad. The bad gets very detailed. I've been burned a few times on HDTracks but I've gotten some good stuff too. Superhirez is offering more and more DSD and the 4 or 5 I've gotten have all been very good. The DSD downloads are generally from recordings that were released as SACD at one time which means they were quite likely well done. It's not always the format, but the care taken in the whole process. SACD's typically aren't compressed like mass marketed CDs often are. But there are some very good CDs out there too. Try Norah Jones' Come Away with Me for a good example. It is also available as a DSD from Superhirez.

^^^^ IIRC, the official word from HDTracks was they simply don't have the time nor personnel to verify that an album is not fake Hi Res (e.g., upsampled from Redbook CD), and they have to rely on what the record campanies give them. However, they do try to listen to what their customers have to say about the quality, and they do offer some kind of not satisfied, money back guarantee.
P.S. - If it's in either 88.2 or 176.4 kHz then it's most likely been converted from DSD to PCM. Conversion from DSD to PCM is not lossless, and IMO should generally be avoided except perhaps if the original DSD version is not for sale. [ I say "perhaps", because DSD64fs is a format that's still technically inferior to 24/96 PCM, no matter what the marketing boys might be trying to make believe]. However, obviously, the mastering process also matters a lot (and not seldom does it matter more than the delivery format does, but still...).
