So I have a dilemma, I was lucky and won a pair of Cardas Era Speakersnow I know that I really want some of the Mr. Speakers Alpha DogsI feel like I have three options: - Sell NIB
- Open - listen and sell
- Keep and find some other way to afford the $600 Alpha Dogs
I am definitely torn, wanting to know how they actually sound... but I figure I lose a lot of value as soon as I take the shrink wrap off. I also feel bad winning something and then turning around and selling it. Thoughts?

I say get the Alpha Dogs any way you can. They are perhaps the best headphones I've ever heard. As to the IEMs, if it was me I'd try them out and see if I liked them since I do use IEMs when I travel - but they'd have to sound a lot better than the Etymotics I currently use. As far as selling something you won, don't hesitate if that's what you decide. Just because you won it does not mean it has no value to someone else.

First, congratulations on the win! Since you know you want the dogs, I would get the most I could from the sale and buy the phones you know you want. Just my thoughts though.

Well, they're IEMs, which is not what you want in the long run, right? If IEMs are not something you want, it doesn't seem logical (to me) to keep them just because they're free. Personally, I'd sell 'em and continue moving towards the Alpha Dogs.

I might be a little odd in this, but I wouldn't buy something that has already been in someone's ear. Yes, I'm sure I could clean them but it would have to be at a steal of a deal for me to want to consider if I was in the market.
I say NIB.

stiehl11 that is exactly my though on selling NIB v. opened. I don't know what the value difference would be... maybe it goes down $50... maybe more.. I have other IEMs, but they aren't in this "class" of headphones. And I can't really see myself bringing $400 IEMs on the plane.. my fear of losing them would be far too high. And I'm just not sure if I want to listen to IEMs at my desk. Though these are supposed to really be in that next class of headphones.

Sell, sell, sell. You know what you want. There is nothing wrong with selling something you won, just put a fair price on it. Then you help someone who really wants something to get a good deal on it. All around it's a win.

I vote that you open them and we ship them around to all demo them lol. But seriously won't you be curious how they sounded if you sell without opening.

I'm with stiehl11 on this. I would never buy something that was in someone else's ear. I would sell them unopened.

It's not too complicated. Open the box but don't try on the IEMs. Instead, sell them to me for $50. Then buy the AlphaDogs.. Ok, seriously, Don't open the IEMs. You'd lose too much value in just trying them on for a few seconds. Since you're not intent on keeping them, it doesn't make sense to open them. I'm with others - sell them for the max amount you can and put those dollars toward the Dogs. That's exactly what I would do in your situation.
