With the DC-1 being such a good price right now would it be wise to purchase a second one just to have? I am curious if Emo will keep the price at the 499 or take it back up to the 699 after the sale.

Two Questions:
1- Do you really like the one you have? 2- Do you have the money?
If the answer to both is Yes, then do it. I'm sure you could find another place to use it.

If you really love the DC-1 and it can be used in another setup so you get to enjoy it sure. But if you plan just to keep it boxed up in the closet collecting dust then I think you could spend the $499 somewhere else.

You should buy a spare of everything. It helps the economy.

I ordered a second one on Sunday myself, using my emobucks from the first one. I was weak. Wise? Not so sure.

If I needed a second DAC right now, I would buy a second. If I did not, I would not...I suspect we'll see other DAC options from Emotiva within the year that have the same SQ but perhaps fewer features and a lower price point.

If you plan to buy it and stick it in a closet, then you are better off buying something else. I say this simply because DAC tech is like receiver/processor tech. It constantly keeps changing/evolving/growing, so if you don't plan to use it right away, it may be a bit long in the tooth when you do pull it out. IMO, and it's your money. At the end of the day you have to do what makes you happy.

Maybe they will put out a tube DAC this summer. I really need to spend the money on some room treatments instead but that is just not as fun!

I'm agonizing over this myself, but in the end agree with Mark and Klown.
Even with the five year warranty, I can't imagine being without this sound.......and features.

Well I bought an extra Stealth 8 that is just sitting in the box, but then I am crazy. I'd say you would have to weigh the benefit of having an extra DC-1 at the low price versus the risk that you may not ever need it and even if you need it, by then it might still be at the low price or it might have been replaced by something better that you would want instead.

Agree. Or, worst case the dc1 goes out of production and we can't find one we like as well.............when we need it.

If the money is burning in your pocket, put it on an upgrade instead. Or wait until something you want comes up. You`ll have the money then. I don`t think it`s wise to spend money on something you might not be using. just my 2 cents

I say buy it if you're going to use it... I bought a second one and use it every day with headphones at work and am loving it.
If you don't have a use for it... don't buy one.

I have a friend with two countashes in his garage. Ironically he says it costs too much to drive either. I guess the clutches go pretty fast.

For the money you could travel to Belgium and enjoy the beer instead.
