Happy holidays to everyone
I was hoping to hear from anyone who has replaced their ERC-1 with the new ERC-3. My ERC-1 sounds great and it would cost me around $650 to get a ERC-3 to my door, so would be hoping the upgrade is an noticeable improvement.
Thx

I do not have the ERC-3, but I do have the ERC-1. I noticed a marked improvement adding the XDA-2 to the ERC-1 that I can only imagine would be similar or slightly below to having the ERC-3 (which has the DC-1 analog stage). From what I've been told, the DC-1 is better than the XDA-2 and the XDA-2 makes the ERC-1 sound crisper and tighter. I was able to distinguish sounds on discs that I've had for years. The first time was a "what the " moment causing me re-listen to the sound to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. I have since been re-listening to my CD collection. The ERC-1 is a wonderful disc player and/or transport but it has its limitations. Adding a XDA-2 or a DC-1 will make it that much better. Or, you can simply upgrade to the ERC-3 and get DC-1 level sound quallity for a little less.

Oh boy, Finally received my ERC-3. Upon first listening I thought this player really shows how great the ERC-1 sounds. I do not mean this in a negative way. IMO moving up to the ERC-3 provides a noticeable improvement. It does everything the ERC-1 does... just a little better. Perhaps everyone has their own unique expectations, however for me it sure put a smile on my face. Because I live in Canada, it cost me $650 total,,,,,,,,,,,,,so you lucky people in the US who get free shipping, this CD player is a bargain. Highly recommended

I owned the ERC-2, and moved up to the 3. If I were to put it into numbers, from an 8 to a 10. One major improvement is to,change the power cord out to a better power cord. IE Morrow Map or Cullen power cord.

Is it really worth paying for that upgrade if the difference is not very noticeable?

For me it was, and I went from the 2 to the 3. Now if you have the Emotiva dac, and run it with your player, there is no real difference.

You have the best preamp. Without the Emotiva dac, your ERC1 is not quite to the level of the 3. IMHO.

I'm using the DC-1 with my ERC-1 right now. Would I get comparable sq using the DC-1 with a cheap Denon 5 disc changer? That would give me the versatility of a changer in my main system and then I could move my ERC-1 to my second system.

But which one is better to buy if given the chance, DC-1 or XDA-2, to be connected to xsp 1?

My read is that the DC-1 has the better DAC implementation whereas he XDA-2 look matches other Emotiva gear. A guess, but not that big a guess, is that there will be an XDA-3 out shortly with a DC-1 style DAC implementation. I bought an ERC-3 mainly because it has the DC-1 style DAC implementation. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Is there really a substantial difference in sound quality between DC-1 and XDA-2 since it is going to be connected to xsp 1 for a 2.2 channel setup inside the bedroom? If you really look at the price between the two, it's doubled. Can an ordinary person hear the significance? I hope you know what I mean..
