Hello. Emotiva, this Q&A should be filed under the XPA-5 FAQ.
Is there any problem to my XPA-5 by keeping it on 24/7? I really strongly dislike the clicks and brief speaker hiss I hear every time I power on my system, even though I've been told by Emotiva there is no problem with it. I believe it, but would rather not hear it if possible. And the only way to avoid hearing it is to keep the amp on 24/7.
Thank you.

I don't think there will be any issues with leaving your amp on all of the time, as long as it's well ventilated, or out in the open. When I first bought my amps, I had them all running (with signal going through them) for a couple of weeks (24 hrs a day), just to see if "burn in" was something I would notice. The only downside I would see, is a rising electric bill. Someone please feel free to correct me/add your advice, if I am wrong, or missing something.

paintedklown, I appreciate your feedback. Thank you. Yeah, not concerned w/ increased electric bill, as I can't imagine that would be anything other than minimal. And, I'd keep an eye out for heat build-up - that's a good concern.
I'm mainly concerned with any concerns with the amp itself, like Emotiva saying I'm cutting the expected lifespan of the amp by two-thirds if I leave it on 24/7.

There is no issue. I used to do this all the time when I had the XPA-5.

You're welcome, and no need to worry about shortening the lifespan of the amp by leaving it on all the time. In the old days, it was believed that you actually got a longer lifespan out of gear from leaving it on all the time. That way you avoid fluctuations in temp, charging/draining of caps, the "spike" of electricity from the power on phase, etc..etc. With modern electronics, I don't believe that concern still exists. Once again, don't take my word as gospel, I am just parroting what I have heard/read from various sources...not all credible, I am sure. Perhaps some of the Lounge engineers, and guys smarter than I, will chime in with their opinions.

Obviously not an amp, but I've had my direc tv box on for 7 years straight now. LOL. I'm actually afraid to turn it off now.

Done. Just disconnected the 12V trigger going into my XPA-5. I first called Emotiva, spoke to Nick, and he confirmed there would be no issues with the amp in having it powered on 24/7. Already have the LEDs turned off, will get a piece of black gorilla tape and, cut a square that just covers the blue power LED (don't want to see the LEDs at all).
Now I'll only hear the clean power that is the XPA-5.
Thanks, all, for your feedback.

Good to know, as I leave my XPA-5 on 24/7 as well.
Thanks,
C

I had a Counterpoint SA-100 tube/mosfet amp that I left on for seven years straight with no problem (at the manufacturer's recommendation). If that amp suffered no ill effects, I bet a solid state Emotiva amp would be fine.
