Curious of what the actual bass driver or woofer is called in a powered subwoofer? I've tried every search term I know and nothing comes up for drivers. Only thing on Google I see is actual powered subs or results for car audio. Just trying to find pricing and stats on drivers to replace in an SVS sub. Must be better models out there than what come stock.

"motor" or "driver" is what I've called the woofer called. For a wide selection of replacement drivers, visit www.parts-express.com If you're not sure what you need, call them - they're knowledgable and helpful. Boom

Not sure about other models. You're not likely to find a cleaner 12" driver than that Peerless, unless perhaps the Dayton HF series. SVS, BTW, tweaks both the driver and the amp to deliver a clean, flat response thoughout the sub's range.

Curious what you are trying to do. Are you replacing a bad driver or just looking to replace a functional one as an upgrade? If you are buying a sub and immediately replacing the driver, it seems you would be better off going the DIY route. Either way, TC sounds drivers are top notch. I recently put a 12" sub together with a TC driver and it plays cleaner than my JL Fathom. Doesn't quite play as low as the JL, but beats it in overall performance in my opinion.

I was going to DIY my sub but didn't want to have a cheezy cabinet and I have no wood experience. Didn't see any pre-made out there with nice quality. I'm sure I'll love the SVS but it took me a while to decide on a model due to aesthetics. I would no doubt have gone with an PB-NSD if it came in another finish. The PB and SB have nice rounded corners but lower quality finishes. I would have preferred a nice piano gloss with a bigger amp while staying with the PB-1000. If SVS were to allow more options to upgrade their subs they would probably benefit in sales. Then again most aren't as anal as me. I can't help but wonder what the PB-1000 would perform like with a 10" driver and 4 or 500 watt amp. Would probably be amazing but what do I know. I just like modding equipment, probably should have built my own.

I get where you are coming from. I wish I had better woodworking skills myself.

You'll just waste your money. You could have bought a flat pack, pre-cut ready to assemble box from PE or DIYsoundgroup and would have been ahead of the curve.
