Hi all I am newbie here, I've just picked up a pair of Polk RTi A9 from Boxing Day sale to join my existing 5.1 system. Although my original Demon AVR-1712 seemed ok to power the Polk RTi A9's, but I am still thinking adding extra juice to these towers and free up some energies for 1712. So my questions are: 1. Is XPA-200 a better choice or UPA-200 is good enough (no budget for XPA-2)? 2. How do I connect Demon AVR to XPA-200 to Polk RTi A9 (graphics/images would be much appraciated)? Thank you very much!

I believe the XPA-200 would be fine for your speakers but I don't see any preouts on the Denon AVR-1712. You would need preouts on the receiver in order to hookup an external amp.

Hi it looks like you are on a budget. If you are looking for a similar unit to the XPA-200. Post a wanted to buy (WTB) thread on the emporium of this forum for a used UPA-2 (not to be confused with UPA-200). The UPA-2 uses the same amp blades and circuitry and general design in the XPA-200. If you look at the amp inside pictures you would be hard pressed to tell which is which (easy hint - capacitors). The XPA-200 was called a UPA-2 "upgraded". What the UPA-2 doesn't have over the XPA-200 is - XLR outputs - 80,000 capacticance (it has something like 30,000) - 29 db gain. (it has 32 db gain like the rest of the gen 1 Emotiva stuff). The UPA-2 goes for about $250-300 used and make sure that if it has a warranty that the original owner will transfer it to you .

But as mdanderson addressed I have to replace my amp first. I am thinking Pioneer SC-1227, any other suggestions? Thanks,

The pioneer would be fine but since you are already having an emotiva product. Don't spend more money on the amplifier stage on that reciever. I think to be honest if you are only sure you want to go multichannel should you consider anything but a simple dac like the dc-1. Cheap and really good. If not a UMC-200 would fit the bill or wait till feb for xmc-1.

Because I am running a 7.1 system that's why I need a AV amp. The reason I wanna get an Emotiva because I feel my RTi A9 needs more horsepower.
