just was experimenting around lately with spikes for diy speaker stands. ended up to use track/ running shoe spikes instead of insanely priced "high end" audio spikes. they do the job just fine and you get them for about $10 for a bag of 100/ 50/ 20 (depending on the brand etc.) at amazon. just thought i share that for everybody getting into any diy projects including spikes. cheers, L

I thought about using track spikes at one point, but the problem I faced was that they really didn't have anything to thread into and they aren't exactly designed to go directly into wood. My solution was to get spikes like you would see on a punk rock jacket. I drilled a hole through the wood and and used the proper size machine screw going through the top and then screwed the spike on the bottom. The nice thing about this is you can use a washer in between to level the stands. www.studsandspikes.com/spike-tree-1-1-8-size-30-black-metal.html

I think I know what you are talking about. It is probably something that could be found in the furniture and or fasteners section at a hardware store.

By the way - be careful with t-nuts in particle board (mdf) cabinets. If you hang a screw on the grille cloth (as I did on a Magnepan), and try to force it, the t-nut will tear a hole in the particle board & come out completely. Then you'll have a "slightly larger than the t-nut" sized hole in the particle board with no way to repair it other than moving the mounting hole.

herbiesaudiolab.net/spkrfeet.htmThis web site may help you with some ideas. I built some speaker platforms and used some of his anti vibration stuff and added my own sliders.

If it was me i would just get threaded inserts. You would find them right next to the t nuts at your local hardware shop. I used these spikes when making my amp stands. Pack of 4 was only $13. each pack came with 4 metal spikes, 4 metal spake pads, and 4 inserts. Just drill the required insert hole size and you are done!
