Just wondering peoples thoughts on vintage speakers being paired with new electronics? I have several pairs of vintage Snell speakers along with a very nice pair of Wharfedale W90E speakers. I have them paired with my Emotiva equipment and new turntables. The sound is amazing. I have gone to a local high end Audio store and their speakers, while nice, just don't seem to have the "emotion" my vintage speakers have. People's thoughts? ?

Some vintage speakers are great, some are truly horrible. if you like what you have then that is fantastic!

I power my vintage ADS L880 speakers with a pair of UPA-1 amplifiers. Works quite well, actually. The amps have the power those hungry old speakers want and need to shine.

Sounds like a heck of a plan.
Your ears all all that matters anyway. Just because something is new does not always mean it's better.

Good speakers are....... good speakers. Doesn't matter when they were made. Speaker technology hasn't changed a whole lot except manufacturing efficiencies have driven costs down. That is the biggest difference IMHO

I have 1978 model AR9 speakers And those are some seriously Bad Ass F'n Speakers in my book. Back "in the day" AR made book shelves that could hang with many of the floor standers of the day. It's been 30 years or so since I heard AR9's. I'd love to hear them again.

You're quite welcome to hear mine if you can find your way to Cairns in Aus... Posting those pictures is just showing off! Quit it. We've privately talked about this. Australia is on my bucket list. I'd love to come down, bring you some custom made cables, spend a day listening to your system while drinking some Foster's, then a couple weeks trying my best to soak in Australia. Jeez, If I only had a small pile of cash... Peace!

i currently drive a pair of Vintage Polk Audio SDA-2 speakers with an Emotiva UPA-200 amp and i couldn't be happier! the speakers are great and they have plenty of power for my place and my taste. i currently have an Oppo 105 connected directly to the UPA-200 the new electronics plays very, very nice with my old 25+ year old vintage speakers! Oh, by the way, i have even watched blu-ray movies on this system and the lossless movie soundtracks sound in-f'n-credible! The train wreck of Super 8, the first attack sequence of Master & Commander, both completely blew me away only being 2 channel and sounding as good as they did. the power of the award winning 105 DAC off the dedicated 2 channel analog output, the life juice of the UPA-200 feeding them ol' girls, life is GOOD! here's a shot of my peoples in their 2 channel home! so you see, vintage speakers can and do get along with new electronics very well!
