Hi there everyone!
Anyone any thoughts on building an electrostatic speaker? Or a pair!! Ha ha.
If you believe the online blurb, you can compete with Martin Logan's best for just a few thousand!!!!
Your side of the pond seems to be better suited to such diy projects, hence the question!!!
Jazz man or curt palme......
Many thanks, Fly.

Now that would be an interesting one! That said - I bought my Maggie 1.7's for just under $2000 and I liked them better than the $5000 ML's I listened to. So, I already got my planars for less than a few thousand. But, if I could make a 3.7 equivalent for a few hundred...I'm in!

Funny you should both say that, cos years ago at the German HiFi thing (that is now in Munich and used to be in Frankfurt) I popped along for the day.......so many ugly, horrible sounds costing 100s of thousands of euros!!! Anyway, in one room was a little set up of maggies and it sounded beautiful!!! Since then I've always wanted to own some.
This summer I listened to maybe 4 sets of speakers amongst them were the 1.7s. They were good but the electromotion s sounded better..... Maybe the maggies needed loads more power that the sugden 21 a couldn't give.
Cheers!

Hearing a set of the electomotions at my local best buy is what started me on my audiophile journey. They sounded incredible! They were using 10k of mcintosh gear to drive them which was a little misleading as well as a 3k Martin Logan sub. People were purchasing them with a $500 av receiver to run them because best buy didn't sell anything better. The main reason I didn't purchase them is I remember the chair they had you sit in was set up perfectly and if you moved ever so slightly the sound changed. But man if you were in the sweet spot it was nirvana!

Yea well - may be a while. I've just started thinking about it, my brain is way ahead of my boss's ability to supply me with $$. There must be a mathematical calculation for that one - maybe E= mo2, where the electrostatic, or maybe Emotiva (E) equals the money (m) multiplied by the amount of overtime (o) squared.I may look into a kit from WA in Australia - www.eraudio.com.au/FAQ/faq.html which while more expensive might save me some issues with getting parts where I am...anyway, we shall see.
