I'm going to join all the others sharing their recently received items purchased during the Holiday sale. I was debating between the UPA-700 and the XPA-5. I had started another thread asking some advice on which to get because I didn't have the cash for the XPA-5 right now. Well after hearing everything, I decided I would look around the house to see if there was anything I could put on craigslist to get some extra cash because I really had my heart set on the XPA-5, even though the UPA-700 would be plenty. Well I was successful in getting enough money before the end of the sale and I bought one. This thing is bigger in person than what it looks in the pictures, but it looks amazing. Got it in place and I wanted to share a pic. You will also notice that I received the just released black trim for the UMC-200. I really like the way it looks. Everything is hooked up and working perfectly. As expected. Thank you Emotiva, and everyone that advised me on my path to get to this point. Attached are some pictures of the old setup and the new. Still have some clean up to do. Attachments:

Glad you were able to get what you really wanted. If you went with the 700, you would have been wondering "what if".

Looks great! Hope you enjoy....!!! On a side note, I'm kinda confused about the new "black trim" for the UMC-200. I was under the impression that the new "black" trim would have the "Gen 2" styling (beveled edge and flat face) and the new "silver trim" would be the conventional Gen 1 style. In short, new "black" trim to match old Gen 1 components to new Gen 2 purchases and new "silver" trim to match new Gen 2 components to old Gen 1 components. Whichever floats your boat. What am I not getting...

doc1963, as I understand it the new black trim is now available for all sizes of gen1 components and is the same style as the original gen1 trim. Gen2 components will (if not available already) also have a silver trim option that is the same style as the black gen2 trim. Right now the only thing that is Gen2 is the XPA 1,2,3,5 so that is probably the only size of gen2 trim they have. They've said the XPA-1 will be Gen2 trim so that will be another size. I'm guessing that the gen2 trim will only be available in the sizes for which there is a gen2 component.
I feel like I babbled through that explanation, but hopefully it makes sense.
Having the slightly different black trim doesn't really bother me. The amp really looks amazing. I always thought it looked good in pictures, but in person it looks incredible.

Received an e-mail response from sales which stated they "have not been made aware of any plans to offer the Gen 2 style trim for Gen 1 style products".

Ok, so I finally had a chance today to really push the system to see what the new amp could do. I don't have much experience with anything other than receivers in the past, but this setup clearly blows away anything I've had before. A neighbor of mine came over to listen and he was also blown away. I told him when I got the UMC-200 a few months ago that it made the sound much cleaner, and with the amp it has made it so no matter how loud I go I don't hear any kind of distortion. It really is amazing to me.
I'm glad I went this route instead of a new receiver.

The ERC-3 is also black Gen 2 trim. Before I ordered the ERC-3 I specifically asked about Gen 1 silver trim being available for it and I was advised that it would be in about a month after launch Which is about now, I'll be interested to find out if it's silver Gen 1 trim or silver Gen 2 trim. I'm not going to be very happy if it's silver Gen 2. Cheers Gary

Love the black trim on the UMC-200. The silver looks so cheap to me. I'll either order them or paint the existing ones knowing full well that paint isn't the same as the anodized finish but I'll bet no one will ever notice Another cool mod would be to add spacers and blue LED strips underneath to emulate the look of the XPR series.

I'll be interested to find out if it's silver Gen 1 trim or silver Gen 2 trim. I'm not going to be very happy if it's silver Gen 2. Agreed 100%. I think from here on out, for now, they should offer 2 types of trim: - Gen 1 style silver trim that fits Gen 2 components. This helps people who liked Gen 1 look make their new stuff fit better.
- Gen 2 style black trim that fits Gen 1 components. This helps people who like the black look move to black, and help them blend with any future components.Of course I don't think they need to do this forever, at least not the black Gen 2 stuff. Anyone wanting or expecting to need it should act while they can. Pony up the $20-$30 per Gen 1 component they own now and buy it when it's available. Just my 2 cents. Cheers ---- Bonzo

Cheers ---- Bonzo As I mentioned previously, I can understand for marketing reason why Emotiva may not want to have Gen 1 equipment with the Gen 2 trim. Kinda defeats the purpose of making Gen 2's look different from Gen 1's. But I can't see any reason for not allowing Gen 1 silver trims to be available for Gen 2 products. In my case the ERC-3 (Gen 2 black trim) looks really out of place with a UMC-200 (Gen 1 silver trim) on the shelf directly above it and a USP-1 (Gen 1 silver trim) and an XPA-5 (Gen 1 silver trim) on the shelves below it. I've emailed Sales so I'll await their response. Cheers Gary

But I think Emotiva went out of their way (for what ever reason) and inadvertently set themselves up for this. Most other brands would not design their stuff in such a way to make the trim flexible like this. And even if they did, when they changed models it would change too much to even think about swapping back and forth. Emotiva did a great thing. I just hope they follow through with the original thought process, hopefully in both directions like I mentioned. This switch over may or may not be an opening for a small 3rd party milling operation to start up. I know it was discussed before, but I think that was prior to Gen 2 stuff. Someone with milling equipment could put material in their machine at night and have parts in the morning. I'm sure they would most likely be more expensive than anything Emotiva might offer, but it might be an option. We have a new router here at work that the training guy told me will route thin sheets of aluminum. Maybe some day I'll get a chance to check it out and see how it looks.

I could source some aluminium extrusions, cut them to length, route the edges, drill them for mounting screws and change all of the Emotiva equipment trims. I could then get them anodised whatever colour I liked. Aside from the time involved, of which I don't have a lot spare, they wouldn't be genuine Emotiva trims so I would have to revert to the originals if I wanted to sell any. So the preference is always going to be to stay 100% genuine Emotiva.
Cheers Gary

But could you not make custom stuff, swap it out, and keep the old wrapped up in a soft cloth, in a bag, in a drawer somewhere? Then when it came time to sell you could put the old stuff back on and use the custom stuff as a "bonus" to help the sale. Just a thought. When I was a kid I liked the big rack handle bars on equipment. I wonder if someone has done that to Emotiva stuff? I'm not sure I'd like it anymore, but it would be cool to see. I just like the stock silver trim myself. Brushed black and silver go well together. Eye of the beholder I guess.

It's not often students notice our setup. Recently we were playing royals and accidentally had it set to near full. The power of the drum beat sort of surprised him and he kept commenting on "those are REALLY good speakers!" Lol. Wouldn't be any good without that good amp! (And it's only a UPA-2).
