Hey Guys.. and Gals,
I found Emotiva on the internet...imagine that ! I never heard of them before clicking on the website. It was around Oct. 2012. A couple months before that, my interest in "Hi-Fi" re-awoke for no apparent reason. I had been cruising the net and reading articles about speakers, in particular, as I wanted to upgrade. After reading about the XRT 6.2's, calling Emotiva and receiving a couple of replies from Lonnie by email, I bought a pair. I hooked them up to my antiquated under-powered 80's Realistic system (don't laugh, it's all I had due to certain circumstances) and immediately realized they are some awesome speakers. Lonnie was right as I expected him to be. But I did not have the amp power to drive them right. I looked at other brands, including Outlaw, - almost bought a RR2150. A couple months later, I upgraded with a UPA-200 and XDA-2 DAC - what a difference ! I was hooked on Emotiva's performance and build quality. I have invested, (substancially for my salary), in other Emotiva upgrades since then - will have to make a "signature. I have been reading the forum and following discussions for almost a year and I finally decided to actually register myself. I am not a big "forum or internet chat person" but I will chime in on some matters that are of interest to me and on which I have an opinion or some knowledge/experience to share. I am computer savvy although not an IT tech. I have not gotten into streaming or downloading music (mp3's) for some reason - never even had an ipod. But I do enjoy good sound - I play CD's mostly and I still listen to FM radio as well (mainly because of convenience). I feel like I already know some of the members here having read so many posts and I look forward to joining the community. My first random opinion in response to recent threads : I like the fancy cursive writing on the Reference series. The Emotiva moniker is modern looking in my opinion so it's a good balance. Also, I like the chrome buttons myself and do not think that blacking out everything ("stealth") is necessarily better looking - it's different , yes.
Yeah, I know, opinions are like a-holes, everybody has one.
Sincerely, a fan man.
