In 5 easy steps: 1. Sell the Bose v35 2. Buy a receiver with independent zone output 3. Watch TV on main receiver 4. Tune to FM radio on zone 1 output 5. Mute the main TV source

Run the cable box directly to the TV and not through the Bose system. Use the radio source on the Bose. This way they are independent of each other. If they want the possibility of TV sound on the Bose, use the digital output from the TV or cable box as a source on the Bose. The saying I always use for this is video up, sound down. This means take all your video sources directly up to the TV and all your sound sources down the the receiver referring to their relative placement. You would need more cables to do this, but it gives them the flexibility.
