So I had a friend of mine from Michigan ask me about Emotiva and where they come up with their equipment code numbers. At first I was like, well, that's sort of an odd question. But he went on to say how they just seem to be all over the place, with very little rhyme nor reason. He understood this from a company with tons of products, but, in the scheme of things, Emotiva's product base is fairly small and controlled. I got to thinking about it, and I myself have had issues typing during threads not remembering what a particular item was actually called. So why all the variances with lettering sequences etc.? Is there a system to it all? Was there one originally and it's just gotten more drawn out over the years? I was just wondering if anyone had any answers to this stupid question, hence, that's why I'm putting this in the stupid question zone. Cheers ---- Bonzo

Basically, the first letter is the series, the next two are the description, and the number is the model number in the series, or channel number for amplifiers. X = X Series U = Ultra Series R = Reference Series (on amps comes at the end of the alpa characters in name) XSP-1 X Series Stereo Preamplifier - Model 1XPS-1 X Series Phono Stage - Model 1XPA-5 X Series Power Amplifier - 5 channel XPR-2 X series Power Amplifier Reference - 2 channel Hope that helps, C

U__ = Ultra series. X__ = X series. X_R = Reference series. For now.
T = Toaster series.

Thanks. But how do you answer the L in XPA-1L, or how an XPA-2 is more powerful and/or different than the XPA-200? Then there is the Mini-A-100, the Stealth DC-1, and the ERC-3. Makes me wonder if they originally had a plan and over the years its just gotten lost/stretched a bit.

L is for Lonnie, the class A thing he said was his baby as he had always wanted to do a class A amp The ERC is I believe Emotiva Reference CD Mini possibly Mini Amp -100w which is the 50+50 stereo The Stealth in the DC-1 I believe was because it was meant as a kinda matching piece to the stealth line of speakers. As for the DC-1 portion, maybe Digital converter 1

Simple answer is that while there is some sort of structure, there are enough exceptions to render the naming convention unreliable for determining anything on a reliable basis.

UPA - XSP - MOUSE! I agree that the numbers ARE confusing. Not a complaint, mind you; I don't really care. But they DO often lead to slips of the keyboard...

In the whole Emotiva range I only have trouble with understanding the naming convention for 2 amps, that being XPA-100 and XPA-200. The rest are all totally logical to me. Even then the XPA-100 and XPA-200 naming does have some logic, they are upspec'd UPA-100 and UPA-200 respectively ie; populated with XPA architecture.
Cheers Gary
