I have several hundred CDs that I want to sell. I see the prices on these things all over the place. Too high on Amazon, too low other places. I know this is a loaded question but what is a fair asking price for a used CD these days? Is it better to sell on a forum like this on just do the flea bay thing? A friend suggested that I just box'm all up and just get a credit for them at a local Record Shop. He said these shops will give more for them this way than just buying them straight out, and I can just use up the credit as I buy more music. Opinions?

I quit selling on Amazon because their policies are crazily anti-small-seller. eBay takes 15% of everything after fees & PayPal, so you don't make much there. I target mine at about $1 each and sell mostly here on the Emporium. Nobody wants to buy several hundred at a time (except me), but you could try them that way - It's less work to sell in bulk. IF (and it's a BIG "if") the local music store has titles that you really want then you might check that out. I suspect that after their markups on the ones you want, you're still getting less than a dollar each, though.
PM me if you want to sell the lot. I'll make an offer. But definitely check out the local store first - they may offer a better deal and there's no shipping involved. My gut feeling though, is that they'll want to "cherry pick" an select only the valuable ones that they're sure to sell for a big markup and leave you with the rest that you won't be able to give away.
Good luck!

Some CD's go for a penny on Amazon because so many people are trying to sell them, and some go for $50, $100 on up because they are out of print and hard to get. I remember buying a Van Morrison Astral Weeks at the Hollywood Bowl concert DVD from Amazon a few years ago for about $15 and now the prices are outrageously high. The problem with selling CD's individually is the hassle of having to ship them out. Anyway, I guess it depends on how much patience you have as to how you decide to sell them. I don't think there is any real "standard" used CD price.

When it showed up it had a price tag on it that read $99.99! I guess I got a deal?

For the most common CDs, or those not in pristine condition you could donate them to a charity and take a tax write off. The rare/more valuable out of print ones you could sell on ebay, audiogon, emo site, etc.

I'd be interested to see what you have Me Three...I buy CD's all the time. As far as selling in bulk, in blocks ($2 each, 3 for $5, 10 for $7, etc...) it really doesn't matter as much as what you have and the quality of the CD. eBay selling sucks nowadays. Too many scamming buyers that get away with murder. Local shops may want what you have in trade for future purchases. Forum sales seem to work better as many members are on the forums for other reasons and a good music sale always perks up their interest. Heck, I put up a cable sale thread on New Year's Day this year and by that evening, every last cable had sold!
