I can't figure out REW or how to use the forum to find help. I've poked around and I'm getting frustrated. I tried Andrews video for subwoofers using the U-Control UCA222. Program doesn't see the Bheringer and I get no sound. WHERES THE DUMBIES BOOK? Or video or tutor or class to learn how to optimize my home theater and 2 channel. Im frustrated and lost and at wits end. I've been to U-tube. Help please I beg anyone to help this old hard head. Nick

Actually at this writing , it's more then my first try. my first try was with a net book running XP, it did not see the Behringer 222. After several attempts and being hard headed I turned to my desktop PC running Winders 7, not misspelled!,. Plugged in the 222 after downloading REW and a few reboots later all was good. PC sees the 222 and there's a handshake woo Hoo! interface not exact as Andrews but close enough. First few try's I got some crazy readings, looked more like a giger counter with peaks and dips like a lie detector needle.A few adjustments between the SPL and the sub made it better but took some time.
well, from start to I think usable readings it took about 3 hours,,,,,,,I told y'all I'm a slow learner like the rest of the world,,,,,,, ive just got done inputting my readings and I'm to pooped to test it out rite now,,,,,I need to chill so I'm typing and listening to some Dave Brubeck. More to report later. I hope all of this learning will pay off,,,,I only have 11 more speakers and 3 more subs,,,,,if I live so long,,,,,,,he,,,,,,he,,,,,
Peace,
Nick

Nick I also had this issue and was able to get the UCA222 to work by performing the following steps. REW never specifically recognized my UCA222 Either. I simply selected "Default Device" under "preferences" for both the output device and the input device. Then go into your computers control panel and under "Hardware and sound" select "view devices and printers" then scroll down and select " USB Audio codec" This solved my problem hope this helps my screen looks like this I should also mention my laptop is running windows 7 so your screen may appear different. You also may need to go back in and select your default audio driver once you,ve finished with your UCA or you may have no sound from your PC

I couldn't bear it anymore,,,,,it's too late to start a movie so I popped in, Pacific Rim. Just the very beginning showed that the labor I put into running REW for that one sub showed that the rest will be a labor of love. Faster response time, crisp per bass, is that possible?, and more depth!!! And the best part,,,,,,,,,,,this was my first try on sub # 1. I know I can dial this sub in better with a few more tries.
I say WOW,,,,,,I Like It,,,,
Five minutes of the film tells me that I have found something that will Improve my sound by a magnitude greater then money, but just as precious,,,,,,,,TIME! Time that will be well spent.
Articulate is a word to define this sub now.
Peace,
Nick

Awesome! And I loved looking at all the graphs, I must have moved my subs in every spot possible and ran a hundred test over my first weekend and it was a lot of fun to learn about to boot!

I used a Radio Shack SPL meter, Behringer U-Control 222, my try pod, and my PC running Windows 7 and some really long RCA cables. Time, Patients, and Andrews video on subwoofer set up.that simple,,,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,,,,
So last night I performed the set up for one sub, I did not mention that I had stereo subs in a quad set up. Sounds complicated,,,,,,,,,it's not,,,,,I think! The matching sub on the same signal was turned off for this set up. So the one setting controls two subs, my review last night was of just one sub and 5 minutes of video.
Guess who came to the movies,,,,,,,,that second sub,,,,,,,,,and the winner isssssss two subs are better then one when you dial them in with REW. I'd like to thank Andrew at this point for his patients with me,,,,,,,,,NAH, just kidding but the tutorial helped so much. What a great way to fall in love with what you have all over again,,,,,hearing ( and feeling ) is believing , and boy what a difference a switch of the second sub makes!!!!!!!
Next weekend, if I can wait, I'll do the other subs, this could get addictive real quick!
The return on your time and money is more then worth it in SQ and emotion in the musice or movie scene.
More later,
Peace,
Nick

Someone said I needed a beg ringer 8000 mic to do my speakers with rew, how does the mic connect to wherever it goes. A little help please you already have everything you need to do your speakers. The high end wont be that accurate though. The easy ideal setup. 1x USB calibrated microphone (avoid the 8000. it requires a usb-pre and phantom power supply and can be a pain compared to the USB microphones) cross-spectrum.com/measurement/calibrated_umm6.htmlcross-spectrum.com/measurement/calibrated_umik.html1x USB extension (amazon) 1x microphone stand That being said - If you plan to get the XMC - The included mic that they are talking about would also work The XMC mic could be sent off to cross-spectrum to have calibrated Dirac Should be able to use any mic (assuming that that functionality is not removed from the emotiva version.)(meaning that if you already have a calibrated mic, it "Should" be usable for Dirac / emotiva. Thanks Tony, I will not be getting the XMC-1 , I couldn't wait. So I will need a USB mic,,,,,,yes? Nick Nick, No, all you "need" a is a radio shack meter. But if you want to take if further, then yes, a USB condenser mic is the easiest to work with. And if you are going to get one then you should probably get one that has been calibrated and contains the calibration data to load into REW. (cross-spectrum).

Thanks Tony and yes Im going further. Having done my subs has improved the sound and response so much that it would be crazy not to complete the task. outside of the equipment I have purchased and soon to own a calibrated mic,,,,,the price " TIME " will be well worth the investment. No piece of equipment can replace good time spent tweaking your gear.
Peace,
Nick

As you start looking at the data, you can use it to determine problems in your room it self. Its just easy to go overboard. Also please check out www.hometheatershack.com/forums/rew-forum/96-house-curve-what-why-you-need-how-do.htmlIts a good read and will help you with setting your targets. Tony
