Hello all , im the new guy & i just found this section of the forum so i figured i'd check in & introduce myself .
My real world name is Levi & i live with my wife in Bloomfield Hills Michigan , im a retired union construction worker where i spent 35 yrs in the building trades as a site superintendant overseeing & coordinating all the trades on site , ive been retired going on 4 yrs now & my wife of 35 yrs is a retired school teacher , we both enjoy many of the same hobbys with the main interests in motorcycles & hifi , namely Mcintosh gear & Harley Davidsons where over the yrs we've collected a few bikes from different era's of HD's history , we've also collected quite a bit of hifi gear over the yrs , both tube & solid state , mainly Mcintosh gear but we also kept a few other peices from Dynaco's last era of production & a few peices ( mainly tube gear ) from various manufacturers , a few rare peices & a few fly by nights like Golden Tube Audio , we ended up collecting most of the Klipsch Heritage line of speakers including K-Horns , Cornwalls , lascallas & Heresys as well as a pair of Shorthorns , all the Klipsch we gave to our sons as they both enjoy audio plus we needed the space , we currently have 2 Mcintosh rigs set up & 1 Emotiva system in progress .
After we purchased the Mcintosh Mc-1201 monoblocks & C-2200 tube preamp 5 or 6 yrs ago we hit a brick wall , stopped collecting & lost interest in audio until i started hearing about Emotiva gear , we bought our 1st piece of emo about a yr ago & it rekindled our interests again , right about the same time i had the opportunity to purchase Roger Russells personal hand built XR-290 speaker system ( the only pair made in white ) & with that purchase we decided to build an entire Emotiva rig around the XR-290's , so far from Emotiva we've got the RSP-1 preamp , the ERC-2 cd player & the latest model XPR-1 monoblocks , when the new emo cd player gets around we plan on adding it as well as the XPR-2 amp , we plan on biamping the big Mc speakers with the 1,000 watt XPR-1 's on the four 12 inch woofers & the 600 watt XPR-2 running the 12 three inch mids & the 24 one inch tweeters in each speaker , in the future if Emotiva comes out with a 200 watt tube amp or a lesser wattage tube amp that can run bridged mono at atleast 200 watts then we'll add a 3rd amp & triamp the system , im dying to see the new emo tube line , if the emo gear i allready own is indicative of the new tube line we'll be getting an emo tube preamp ( dependant on tone controls ) as well as atleast 1 emo tube amp , we've been trying to buy several of the CMX units as well as X series speaker wires & enough XLR's for the emo rig to no avail .
I ve spent alot of time on the forums over the yrs at places like Audioholics ( same username ) & Audiogon ( username Bigjoe ) as well as Rollitup ( username Panhead ) where im a moderator of the hydroponics forums , my wife's Multiple Scleurosis advanced & she's been ill for the last yr or so & helping her took precident over time spent online so i haven't participated in forums that much but she's slowly getting better giving us some spare time for the forums .
This looks like a good place for all things Emotiva especially since the company owner participates in the open , unlike some other company reps who post as shills so i think were gonna stick around .

Welcome to the Lounge, Levi. I was born and raised in Oak Park but left back in 1984 at age 32 and settled in to Middle Tennessee. But I have many fond memories of Michigan. And some of my best were of cruising Woodward Ave in my 1966 Charger and Chevelle SS 396.

Welcome! You may be very interested in the DC-1. I've heard it and it's the best DAC Emotivas makes. It's not perfect but it's a significant step up from my XDA-1. A "take it to the next level" DAC for very little $$. It would mate well with the ERC-2 you have.

Welcome, Levi. Lots of us here are nuts (I speak from personal experience), but most here are some of the nicest people you'll find on the internet. There is also an AMAZING depth of knowledge here to be tapped. I've learned more from the fellow Lounge Lizards than I did over decades of being a hobbyist.
Enjoy the ride!

Welcome from a fellow Michigander. Grew up in Walled Lake, then lived in Brighton for a lot of years. Now retired near Battle Creek. Despite the cold and snow this time of year, I expect to remain a resident for life. You've had the privilege to own and enjoy a lot of great gear. And this is the place to keep that trend going!
Cheers!
Chuck

Hi guys & thanks for the welcome , i used to post alot of pics of my gear when we had a computer , i have a sony mavica digi cam that records pics on floppy disc & we could use discs via computer & thats how we posted , we dont use computers except for posting pics so when our computer took a dump we opted to buy a sony ps3 for internet , i'll ask my son if i can get pics posted from the ps3 using my camera , it takes awesome pics .
Hi Chuck , the pic you posted of the Mc XR290's is of Mcintosh's consumer models , mine are a bit different , Mc used a 2 piece design to make it easier for customers to move around 400 lb speakers with the top & bottom cabinets connected with locking octal plugs , since Roger was going to use my pair for his personal system he had the cabinets made in one peice & derived tighter bass response , the origional design he presented to Mcintosh was a single cabinet design but the head honchos at Clarion decided to split the speaker in 2 pcs & he had no control so the public got an altered version of his design , the only other differences are no octal connection between upper & lower & cabinet color, Roger had my cabinets finished in white gloss, consumer models came in wood grains or gloss black , the soundstage is undescribable as is the clarity & depth , we owned the Mc XRT-22 4 peice models for over 10 yrs durring which we never heard a speaker we liked more until we got the 290's so we kept both , it's also nice that the 290's have a much smaller footprint than our XRT -22's.
Once i get the picture debocle worked out & i'll get pic's up of the systems , hopefully we'll get the XPR-2 & have them biamped by then as well .

Welcome to the Forum Levi..Needless to say nice gear. There's some other guys here who ride ..Just traded in Nov a 1996 FLHR carb and 2001 x-1 carbon fiber race 1203 Buell both black.. Aren't all Harleys suppose to be black ? Picked up a new Electra Glide Classic....Got some other bikes still hanging around. Would love to hear your gear and see your bikes..I'm hoping to ride 4 corners in the spring...It's hard to find the time with a soon to be 13 year old home..Life was so much simpler in my youth.. Hang in there..Looking forward to reading your posts. And glad to hear your wife is feeling better..Elliot

Cheers! Chuck Chuck, when I was a young lad back in the late 40's and early 50's I used to send lots of mail to Battle Creek, Michigan with some box tops and some quarters. I got lots of cool stuff including a submarine that I put (baking soda?) in and it went up and down in the bathtub. I went to get the mail every day until I got a package from the Kellogg boys. That was so cool! Chuck Levi, welcome to the Emotiva lounge!I just salivate when I think about your Mac speakers. May be you can post a video at YouTube (use the private setting and you can give us the link to view it...... whoops I just realized maybe you can't do that, no computer). You'll like it here although I don't know where all the talk about the Lounge being a nuthouse came from? Glad to hear your wife has had some improvement with her MS. Chuckie nut

Chuck, I remember that same submarine. We didn't have a bathtub so I had to try it out in the kitchen sink. I forgot that came from Kelloggs! Battle Creek is still the "Cereal City", but lacks a lot of the class and attractions that it formerly offered. But we have family and friends here, so we're staying!
I also remember the anticipation of going to the mailbox every day after having sent in the requisite box tops, coins, etc. As I recall it took a LONG time for those highly anticipated items to arrive. So long, in fact, that many times I had forgotten about the item by the time it arrived. Now we are a culture of immediate gratification. I guess it's a good thing that we can't receive plastic submarines by Email. Although it won't be long before we'll all have 3D printers, can download our plastic submarine design file, send it to the printer, and take it to the bathtub for a test drive all in the same day. It's hard to teach kids the value of patience in this environment, isn't it???
Cheers!
Chuck
