Now that the fully-balanced generation two is out, how low will the prices go on used XSP-1s? $600? $500? Less? I'd scoop one up just as a spare for those coins...

Hi Boomer,
I would be surprised if it would go for that little coin, but hey if you do come across two at that cost, send me a PM

Boomzilla The first generation model is fully balanced as well. I am trying to figure out a price myself. I don't need to but I want to upgrade to the Gen 2 and will be selling mine shortly. Emotiva is selling factor renewed/refurbished models for $750. I don't see why a private sale one couldn't go for around that price. I'm not sure what the warranty terms are for the B stock items but even the first models sold will still have around 3 1/2 years on them and (hopefully) didn't need servicing. Emotiva does throw in free shipping, however. Basically, I haven't a clue.

I would guess that $675 will be the average sale price of generation 1 units. I can't see the price going much lower since the other option is spending another $325 for a comparable unit new.

I have to think the higher price of the G2 will help maintain the value of the G1, I agree they should be similar to the refurbished units Emo is selling. The SMT notwithstanding I'd be surprised if there's an audible difference (as chaosrv mentioned the G1 was already fully differential). I'll admit the G2 looks are pretty spiffy, but the G1 ain't no ugly duckling and there are plenty of people around with other G1 equipment to 'match', and some pairing it with other equipment who may not care about what G they get.

I have a gen 1 and see no reason that it's value has deminished! Gen 2 styling is not worth that much coin and I really don't think we will HEAR a difference in the sound signature. Mathematically,,,,,,maybe ,,,,,,but audibly? I think not. Sell or swap me some gen 2 trim and I'll be happy. Now if we're going to talk about a new DSD USB DAC,,,,,,we will have to cross that bridge when we get there. Nick

I'm only selling my XSP-1 only if the XMC-1 can do the same SQ as the XSP-1 in two channels . It's supposed to be a fully balance differential 2 channel preamp also. It could save me some real estate, money, and cables if this XMC can produce the same SQ as the XSP does now.

It's going to be hard for the price to drop too much IMO. But drop it will just not by much. The thing that will cause the real drop is when used XSP-1 gen 2's arrive on the market. Sort of like the UMC-1 and the UMC-200 right now.
