I hesitated starting this thread in fear that I would be "found out." So I got the email about the Secret Warehouse Sale and I noticed that they had an XPA-3 Gen 1 refurbished for $500. Since I am awaiting shipment on a pair of Martin Logan Electromotions and Motion 8 Center, I wanted to give my new front stage some respectable power. After all, you wouldn't order a Corvette with a 4-cylinder engine. So, I decided to pull the plug on the refurbed XPA-3. The Emo amp arrived tonight and when I unboxed it I about freaked out. Not only did they NOT give me a Gen 1 XPA-3, they gave me a BRAND NEW GEN 2 XPA-3!!!! What other audio company can possibly treat their customers this good? Maybe it could be a refurb, but I don't see how. There is not one single flaw I can find. And it had that new amp smell. Needless to say I'm ecstatic over my new amp! I hooked it up to my vintage Polk SDA 2A's via my Marantz SR5004, and replacing the older UPA-200 amp, and fired it up. Wow! The imaging and dynamics are very impressive. I didn't think I would hear this much of a difference. It's not like it's "louder," but it definitely has more authority and detail. And more punch. I can't wait to hear what it will do to my new MLs. All I can say is Friday's movie night at my house is going to kick ass! THANK YOU, EMOTIVA!!! FAN FOR LIFE!

Glad that you are loving the new amp. From what I have read, Emo always sells gear in great condition, and as far as I am aware (someone please correct me if I am wrong) all of the refub gear will have a "B Stock" sticker on the box somewhere. If yours didn't then you may have just been ultra lucky, or Big Dan was feeling ultra generous. Either way, congrats on the new amp.

Klown, I just checked the box and there's no "B" anywhere to be found. There is, however, a sticker that states "XPA-3 G1" but the unit I got has the gold-plated RCAs which I believe I read somewhere they added for the Gen 2.

It happens. I bought an ERC-1 at one of those 'secret' warehouse sales - ended up with an ERC-2. It looked new too. No 'refurbished' markings on the box either.

Dear Uncle Bert, The Gen 2 has the black end plates which are flat down the front and say Gen2 on the face of the unit just under the XPA-3. The Gen1 usually have a silver end plate with a groove down the front of the plate. Don't forget the other products from Emotiva are just as great, including the new speakers to be out soon! (Generation 1)

Maybe it's the Emotiva "Whats in the Box Secret Sale". Take the Box.... Take the Box! I'm loving the way mine sound, and happy to hear your situation with the sale of their "used" stuff was positive. I need 1 more XPA 1.

Chuckie,
Thanks for the clarification. It seems I do, indeed, have the Gen 1. Well, it doesn't matter. This thing is amazing anyway. So glad I found Emotiva.

Many members have spray painted the silver end plates with Krylon black satin paint with apparently good results.

Or simply remove them and stick the screws back in place - or not. I've done both. I never really cared for the industrial look of the aluminum trim.
