I just recently purchased a umc-1 really for the HDMI use but I have tried everything I know to get some bass out of it , my H/K receiver has much better bass than I can get out of this . I cant and don't want to use a sub and listen to everything in 5 ch. stereo or at least I did , any suggestions before I put it up for sale and go back to my 10 year old H/K ?

You;ve mentioned tried everything. From your equipment, looks like you are not an audio newbie. But just confirming that you've tried the EQ's and boosting the bass the speaker size set to large any kind of dynamic range control set to off. any kind of matrix mode (dolby prologic) set to off.

well I have checked on an EQ and set the bass to max but it seamed like it made it sound muddy if I changed the treble if I went all low and less highs., as far as the dynamic range and the Dolby set to off , I didn't see any dynamic settings , may have missed them but I don't think so , , Even though I am not a newbie some settings on here are not user friendly for layman thinking about building a space shuttle and may be through with it before I get this fine tuned....lol , it would be nice if it had a tone in and out so if I wanted to I could just turn up the bass if I felt like it....

I thought the UMC-200 had trim controls? I know that the UMC-1 does.

Well, in that case... yes, there are bass/treble trim controls on the UMC-1 that you can adjust to your liking. They won't be functional if you're in DIRECT mode. These trims are also accessible from your remote directly so you don't have to dig into menus to find them.

As a previous UMC-1 owner with an XPA-5 I can assure you that provided the speakers are up to it (and Klipsch F-3's are up to it) then there is no problem with the UMC-1 bass output, rattle the windows, the pictures fall off the wall, the neighbour's dog hides in its kennel. It's a set up selection issue. The UMC-1 is a powerful processor, it can do almost anything you want, what that means is you have to tell it what you want. As the guys have suggested above, I'd make sure the FL & FR are set to "large", set the subwoofer to "no/off" and the throughput to "direct".
I must say I haven't seen a Music Hall MMF25 for over 10 years, one the first CD players I ever heard with a Burr Brown DAC, brilliant sound for that period.
Cheers Gary
