Has anyone tried to pair XPA-1L with Magnepan 1.6? What is your impression? I currently have XPA-3 driving my 1.6 and I am happy with it. Yet I am always curious about class A amp (never had/owned one) and wondering whether it would produce any sonic improvement (I am almost certain that it will sound differently). I know that you might suggest to exercise the generous 30-day warranty but I still like to know what other people think anyway. Thanks for your reply.

Nice speakers BTW. Big Maggie fan from when I owned a pair of SMGa. I still miss those speakers. What is your other gear? Remember, you need to think of the entire audio chain. If you had a full differential system from source to preamp and wanted to complete the experience with the mono blocks, then I don't even think this would be an issue. While the xpa-1L have the POTENTIAL to sound better that doesn't mean they will in your system. If you are happy with the sound I would stand pat personally. However, If you got the funds to spare and want to play, then sure try them out with Emotiva's 30 day trial and determine for yourself if they are worth the investment.

You might also post about your listening habits (volume) and room dimensions.
What are you looking to gain by switching amps?

I ran MG12s with UPA-1s for months without any issues.

Of course, I should post my gears and listening habit. So here it is: Oppo 83 --> Schitt DAC with Uber board upgrade --> USP-1 preamp --> Maggies 1.6 and PSB-6i subwoofer. I should also mention that I did some mods to these maggies which include full razor (which basically adding mass to the mylar)and also external cross-over component upgrade. The latter yields the most definite improvement to clarity, midrange, separation. It's part of the HT/Stereo setup to with the ratio of 60/40 respectively. I listen mostly to classical, instrumental, some opera, and soft jazz. Alison Krauss is one of my favorite. I would rate my listening level as low to medium level so 35 W of class A would be more than enough for me. Thank you all for your input/reply. This is my first post to this forum although I have been a free rider for a long time. Have learned and enjoyed so much from reading your posts. Have a great weekend to everyone.
