First, I need a cable-splitter...

I have a 5th generation i-pad that occasionally looses connection with Roon on my older MacBook Pro. It just takes a couple of seconds to reboot and be back in operation, but a bit annoying. Everything is WiFi. Enabling Lock Screen controls (beta) helps for play and pause, etc.

First, I need a cable-splitter... Why, Glenn?

Because the incoming cable drop to the living room is currently connected to the TV. To get it to feed both the TV and the cable modem (from the single drop) I'll have to split the coax. The only other drop in the house runs through the attic to the computer room.

Since this will be the ONLY split on the run, it should be OK. The cable guy told me that if it were split more than once, then (and only then) would an amplifier be needed. I'll at least try it his way first...

I'll at least try it his way first... I have no amplifier and my cable splits 4 ways as it enters the house. Another split on the second floor for tv and my router. No drops and no problems with Roon or any other connection, WIFI or hard connections. I’m using the TP-Link Deco Mesh system.

Somewhere in your browser, you can enter your Routers address and look at signal strength / SNR and other measurables.

Expecting my splitter to arrive this afternoon...
Until then, a new (and unrelated to audio) dilemma:
I'm doing a sufficient number of reports for clients these days that I think it is now economically feasible to justify the cost of a home color laser printer. I anticipate printing between 2,000 and 3,000 pages per month. Whatever printer brand I buy needs to work well (actually, VERY well) with Mac OS-X. I once bought a HP LaserJet and its drivers were so quirky for Mac that the thing quickly became unusable. It would lose all its scanning & sometimes even printing capacities after every update (EITHER a HP driver update OR a Mac OS update). I ended up giving it away at a huge loss.
Features I need:
Wireless connection Front fold-down paper tray (for printing shipping labels) Huge paper tray capacity (or optional user-installed second 500-sheet tray) Fast print speed (higher the better) Paper handling good enough to handle Mylar-reinforced, 3-hole punched paper in duplex mode Auto-duplexing Availability (due to world shipping issues, and/or Covid overseas most printer models are sold out or totally unavailable)
What I don't care about:
Multifunction (I have another 11x17 MFC inkjet that can handle these tasks) Toner cost per page (clients will pay a per-page rate sufficient to not only cover consumables, but also to cover amortization of the printer itself) Printer initial cost
So far, I've looked at:
HP / Lexmark (not enthused because of previous experience with this brand) Brother (good features, Mac compatibility, & price, but they're all out of stock)
So far, I've not yet looked at:
Xerox Okidata Konika-Minolta Canon
Open to suggestions as to Make, Model, and vendor.
Thanks - Boom

How interesting...
I got a (scam) email today that Norton Utilities had charged my credit card over $500 for a "renewal." Just to be on the safe side, after I deleted the spam "Norton" email, I logged onto my card provider's website just to double check & make sure that there were no Norton charges. There weren't.
But while I was reviewing charges, I noticed that there was a Feb. 22 Walmart purchase of over $1,600 that neither my wife nor I made. I notified the card carrier, they immediately cancelled my card, and are sending me another. I'm glad I happened to check the account, or I wouldn't have known about this fraud until later this month when the billing cycle rolled around.
Hoping they can catch the crooks... Such fraud costs us all.

Does your card(s) offer activity alerts, such as notifying you via text or e-mail if a charge over a specified dollar amount is made to your card? That's a helpful way to be aware of any fraud that might take place.

The e-mail notification is a phishing tactic hoping the receiver will access the link in the e-mail and if one try’s to log on that “got cha!” These scams cost them nothing, not even much time once the get the e-mail lists. Its good that you called your bank but now that your e-mail has been sold, (at least once) you will get more of them. Never accept anything from anybody you don’t know, straight to the trash and check your accounts via your own app or method that your bank gives you. I found a vey minor amount taken from my account and immediately notified the bank, this method is to watch your account to find the date that the most monies in your account and then they will hit you big, if you don’t take action for even a minuscule amount you will become a victim. So glad your proactive Boomzilla ! PS: I had caught an attempt on our business account and it broke my heart to have to close the account my mother and father had opened together 35 years ago, Pop has since passed but I’m greatful to still have my mother, she’s currently 87 and goes to the restaurant to work 6 days a week! 😮 I believe that her having a purpose has kept her alert and active.

If you do receive a text or e-mail notification, often they are done poorly so you can spot a fake. But some are done very well. If you didn't make the charge, then either log into that account to see if it is really in the pending list or call the card company using the phone number on the card.

My credit card company is good about calling me in person if something comes up that doesn't look right (minor charges in hometown today, big charge in Toronto this evening, small charge in hometown again tomorrow). Could it be possible that I mail ordered something? Sure, but I'm glad that they call me to ask anyway.
Both my credit union and my other card carrier are good about keeping in touch. I used to have to travel more & kept a trio of different cards (Visa, MC, & FedEx) in case one had to be disabled while I was on the road. Now that I don't travel so much, I've dropped down to two cards. My cards, though, all carry high limits. Never know whether clients want entertainment, or whether instead of flying home, I need to drop-ship my butt to a new destination. It's happened.
Good advice, all, guys - thanks!

Thanks - Boom When I dumped my inject for a laser for Text only? I looked at manufacturers broadly. than at Specific models having a large enough number of review to be statistically valid. At that point? Parse thru the BAD reviews only to see if a pattern develops. I found, for example that HP had THE WORST overall ratings. Some individual models were up to 25% One Star reviews. No HP machines made it past first cut. Brother ended up with my vote. In the lowest tier of 1 star reviews. High percentage of 4 and 5 star reviews. AND the pattern in the bad reviews was not somehting I thought a Deal Breaker for ME> I can't remember, but something to do with wakeup or stayin on-network (wireless). I connect with USB and otherwise could care less.

My top two choices after research are a Brother and a Xerox. The Brother would be the winner but for the fact that it's out of stock.
I could find a refurb Brother, but I'm not confident that I'd get reliability. I could buy the Brother model new off the internet, but would pay significantly above list price.
I need to do further research about Xerox printer compatibility with Mac OS before I go there.
So for the time being, I'll just wait.

Boom, I bought a "refurbished" Epson projector years ago that has been perfect. I think Brother and Epson may be the same Company?
Check their site(s).

I'll do best to order directly from Brother. Their "new" price is less than elsewhere for a "refurb." Since I'm in no rush, I'll just watch until Brother gets some in. Thanks!
