My Main Room is small/medium and I am using dual SVS SB-1000 subwoofers. The bass sound is great as in 5.1 mode or as in music mode.
And I have payed less for 2 subwoofers than a biggest one. I can not speak in general, but in my case it is the best solution and I do not regret having listened carefully to the advice of the salesman at SVS.

I couldn't agree more, the service there is top notch. There are very few businesses in this country that handle themselves as well as they do. On my search for my subs I was extremely impressed with the patience and information given.

You have to sell yourself as well as the product. A great product without a firmly structured business module is nothing.

have you looked at the newly released svs sb 2000 and pb 2000 they also went of sale today I believe..

for an inexpensive sub they both have really nice spl vs frq graphs..

Like many of us, I have to optimize "cash" I spend in purchases of audio-video equipments. While the SB-2000 have better performances than the SB-1000, but in the context of my use my two SB-1000 suit me perfectly. They do not take up too much space and deliver thumping bass. I did not need to shake the walls of the house. As I said I do not regret having installed two sub, they are located in my room one in front of each other as shown in the image below and they performed very well:
