This is my first attempt at modeling my sub build. I'd appreciate any and all feedback. Goals are to have a sub that can play clean down to 16-18 Hz. I was originally going to buy a SVS tube sub, but I think I can build a better one cheaper. I plan on using a 16 inch x 48 inch sonotube which gives me 158.15 L^3 of volume. My driver is going to be a TC Sounds Epic 12". Attached is my modeling output. Just a note - I picked three ports because I read to aim for a vent mach under .045 to eliminate port noise. This gets me right at .04. One thing I'm unclear about is what kind of power I need to get the output I want.

I know this is over a month ago, but thought I would chime in anyway Have you made any progress? I built my Sonotube sub about 13 years ago, so it's been a while ... When you say 16" x 48", are you saying a 48" diameter tube which is 16" long, or a 16" diameter tube which is 48" long? With a 16" diameter, you don't have enough surface area for the ports (so I assume it's 48" diameter). I built mine with a 24" diameter tube, and made the internal height 23", which yields a 160l (or 5.65 ft^3) enclosure; very similar to yours. It's in the corner of my room, with a table cloth draped over it. Most people thinks it's just a table I used an Adire Audio Shiva dual voice coil 12" driver (8ohm coils), and a 16" long single 4" flared port, which tuned the enclosure to 23hz. Are you using flared ports? And are they 3.25" ports? Does the software you are using allow you to spec flared ports vs. non-flared? If I remember correctly, using a flared port allows less port area while keeping the port noise in check. Like I said, it was a long time ago, but here is a conversation I had with others when I was spec'ing mine out: www.htguide.com/forum/showthread.php?3139-Sonotube-Sub-Design This project was one of the most satisfying HT projects I ever did. After 13 years, the sub is still going strong and has never let me down. I now have it powered by a Carver a-400X (200w x 2 @ 8ohm), and it booms when called upon. As far as power requirements, how big is your room and how many dB do you need it to play from your listening position?
