I finally pulled the trigger and got my XPA-200 for my Maggie’s. Now I need some help getting a new AVR. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would suggest something tried and true. (Searched the forums but didn’t see anything to my liking). I need to purchase a new AVR since my Onkyo HT-R960 (Also part of HT-S9100THX) is no longer cutting it.
This is what I’m looking for: - AVR no more than $600 or $700 max - 7.1 channel capable - Must have Pre-Outs to connect my XPA-200 - And wattage around 80-100w per channel - HDMI or Digital in/out will do.
I’ve been a long time Onkyo fan but definitely open to other brands I would appreciate any help on this. Thank you and have a great day.

Yeah that is a good unit the 1020 at 4 bills off is nice. That's the unit I wanted in my set up I would take that unit over my NR818 I paid the same $699.00 my Onkyo, But here's the thing my unit is new got it back in DEC of last year and just this week and last week I has two video drop outs still had sound but no video the unit had just turned it self off..and I am seeing from the reviews it is happening a lot with these NR818 units My Son has the 705 Onkyo and its dead only 3 years old. So I will be watching this close..just saying the Yammmy 1020 is a nice deal..if that's the way you want to go..

The SR5008 is a beautiful thing. Let me research this AVR. Thanks cheglie and the rest for the recommendations. I truly appreciate it.

Perhaps look at the Yamaha RX-A830. New with warranty on ebay, with everything you want.

Mike Any luck with Onkyo tech support? bootman, I haven't called or email them just yet I do have 20 months of warranty left on it. And I haven't done the firmware update on it too. I really kind of on the line of doing the update well cause I have read that some who have done the update are sorry for doing it, they ended up no better then before or ended up with more bugs then before. I really like this unit makes a awesome Pre-Amp and the amp side is not bad too it drives my center very well. OP sorry about my post just trying to help is all. But Onkyos have been "Bugy" but then again so have many others to..

Morrisseys friend:
Cool. I'm excited for you! As a Marantz fan (you may notice in my signature), SR6200 receiver which I purchased from Accessories 4 Less in 1999 which is still going strong as a bedroom system. Only reason I changed is that it has no HDMI connections. I was using it with a Marantz CD/DVD player 5.1 analog. It was a powerful receiver and I shared lots of music with my entire neighborhood. After switching to HDMI (my BD has no analog) it took some time to adjust and must admit I kinda miss the analog sound.
I would have purchased the SR5008 for myself, but my current rack limits me to 6" height max and the 5008 barely does not clear. So I am using their slim NR1603 with the upa-200 driving mains. However, I REALLY wish I had more pre-outs for expansion (NR1603 only has pre-outs for mains). I am hoping the new Fusion turns out to be a success and may be my next choice for size and pre-outs.
Keep us informed and I'm sure you will be happy with that purchase!
