I crack myself up. But really, I just ordered Ascend towers and would like some opinions on the best amp. Im thinking the xpa-2. Also if anyone has these speakers how do you like em.

What I guess im asking is would you go with an adequate amp. Which the xpa-2 seems to be. Or would that amp be more than adequate. I kind of subscribe to the school of more is better. I feel if you dont have to get above 60% of an amps ability the sound remains cleaner.

The recommendation from the forum is typically spend as much money as you can.
XPA-2, XPA-1l (pair), XPR-2. Go for what you can afford. Wouldn't do less than the XPA-2 for tower speakers.

Im already over what I should afford. It takes me a little time to save up for each component. Patience is a virtue and an ulser. LOL. I was thinking one amp to do it all. XPR-5. Is this amp better for music or surround. Its plenty of power so maybe it will handle both very well.

XPA-2 it is!!! It really should be all the power you need. It is the same cost as a pair of XPA-100.

After following the path of the mono block I have to agree it's the way to go. If your going to jump into the pool don't go halfway.

If you've got the room, an XPR anything will work great!!!
On the other hand, I use two XPA-2s as vertical biamped monoblocks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ordered the XPA-2 for the towers, and will probably go XPA-3 for center and rears when I get them. I like the idea of monoblocks, it definately adds visual cred to system. For now my g.f. already thinks i'm spending way too much, tho I did buy a leather sectional cause she wanted one. Gotta appease the gods. If I ever get larger towers I probably will go mono.

I find you do get returns on Emotiva electronics the more you spend. But... in case you were having doubts, the XPA-2 is one amazing amplifier. It really is Also remember, before all the new additions, the XPA-2 was Emotiva's flagship stereo power amp. It is definitely not a slightly above the cheap stuff amp. It's big, well built, and it's got guts. Truth be told, I haven't heard an Emo amp I haven't not liked.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I went with the xpa-2. It was in the best price range for my needs and has plenty of power. I do like a warmer sound so mono tubes may be in my future, but for now i'm trying to get this thing built and enjoy it. If I do go mono, I may go McIntosh. Time and money will determine tho.
