Yes, i spoke with a tech earlier this week. He said something about the reader, put it this way, It's CDs that i'm using he says. But I beg to to differ, I've had had all of the Emo Cd players, and they had the same problem. When the same CDs are used in other players, no noise I'll probably end up selling it soon... gday emosean, sorry to hear your noisy erc-3 cant be rectified. its a pity as it is a fine sounding cd player. for some owners with noisy motors once the volume is turned up it doesnt appear to bother them. but @ low volume i can understand your frustration, it would annoy me thats for sure. i'm very fortunate mine is quiet, admittedly i can hear slight motor noise about 12 inches away with the pre's volume muted. would you replace it with a different cd player or a different type of source? good thing you have the tt. cheers chris

I'm using a Rega CD player now. It sounds a bit better than the ERC-3, no noise whatsoever .
I still like the ERC-3 tho, but the noise can get to me sometimes..

sorry about my oversight, thought you had a rega tt. nice cd player the rega, heard it @ my local hifi shop a few yrs back. perhaps you could set the erc-3 up as a 2nd system? i find its handy sometimes to have a backup component incase something goes wrong in the main rig. enjoying some tunes now, its 6pm australia time, gotta a great night ahead. cheers chris

Well, I sold the ERC-3 , using a different tray loader transport , no noise now. So, it's not my CDs that's causing the problem...
I guess I'm too picky ..

gday emosean, i commend you on giving the 3 emo cd players a go in your rig. hey at the end of the day its best whats makes you happy. congrats on the sale of your erc-3. you have peace from the motor noise & enjoying your music which is as how it should be. no, your not picky, cd transports have been around long enough & quality ones shouldnt be noisy not your cd's lol! i have just brought a quality australian stereo amplifier. brand is: me. which is: modular electronics. been around since 1976. its model: me550 series 2. wow! its sounds better than my upa-1's, so much so that i'm selling the upa-1's. but it doesnt stop there have chased down a more powerful but more suitable power amp: me850. be getting delivery next week, 85 pounds of it! but sheer finesse along the way. will compare these 2 amps & very most likely sell the 550. enjoying the 550 right now, gosh its such a great amp, cant wait till the 850 arrives next week. enjoy your rega player mate. have a good 1, cheers chris

How could it possibly be the discs? Suddenly all 732 of my discs (some old, some new) are no good? MY ERC-3 is the noisiest CD player I've ever owned--my ERC-1 was quiet as a tomb compared to it. As with what emosean said, the same CDs run on other players (in my case ERC-1; Oppo BDP-103 and BDP-105; Marantz UD 7007; either generic disc drive on my Dell XPS 8700; a $100 Onkyo CD player) are quiet--because the player MOTORS are quiet BY DESIGN. Emotiva was kind enough to pay shipping both ways for an evaluation of my ERC-3 (A+ for customer service and very much appreciated!). They said they couldn't duplicate the noise. The playback sound that comes off the ERC-3 is great, really good, but I listen a lot at low volume and the ERC-3 is about two feet from my chair. The rumble-growl-rattle of the ERC-3 has sucked the enjoyment out of the purchase. A real disappointment.

When I had the ERC-1 it became noisier over time. Emotiva replaced the spindle motor I believe. The ERC-2 was quiet. The funny thing is that none of my older Pioneer cdp's are noisy at all regardless of what I put in for a cd.

I have learned to tune it out now. Anytime I am in quiet listening mode I simply plug in with headphones and relax. Most times I listen at mid level volume so the motor noise is not noticeable.

I've never noticed it, you have sparked my interest, when I get home tonight I'll have a listen for it. how was your erc 3 Gary? thanks I mentioned it in another thread, but over the weekend I had to do a bit of servicing on some interconnects, the TT ones. The only time I had spare was Sunday morning early, very early, before anyone else was awake. So unfortunately no music while I worked. Instead I tested the ERC-3 motor noise. I tried new CD's, old 80's CD's, hybrids SACD's, the full range of types I have. I tried it from my usual listening/seating position, standing next to the rack, even with my ear pressed up against the loading tray. I could hear the loading tray open and close, obviously, but that was very quite and only in the closest 2 listening positions. From my seating position I couldn't hear it. Next was the laser head tracking noise, I could only hear that in the closest listening position. It wasn't audible standing next to the rack or from my listening position. Lastly spin motor noise. I could just, and I really mean a very tiny amount, hear it with my ear pressed up against the loading tray. I even had my daughter who is obviously much younger than me listen, and at first she couldn't hear it at all, then when I described it she said she could just hear it. Neither of us could hear it from the listening position or standing next to the rack. I didn't detect any difference between types of media, the motor noise was the same regardless, next to silent. Cheers Gary

Next weekend I have to do some setting up on my UMC-200 and I will be using my SPL meter. So if it's early and quiet I'll try to get an SPL reading on the ERC-3's 3 motor functions from the same 3 locations. Although I suspect that it will be a waste of time trying to pick up anything from the seating/listening position. Cheers Gary
