So, thinking about purchasing an OPPO 103. Just a thought.......if I want this unit due to it's great processing and connect it to my receiver then I would need to use Source Direct on receiver to bypass the processing on my receiver, but also lose the use of Auddessey?
Also, may be an old topic but any input from people trying this BD player as a pre-amp?

I assume you're talking about watching video content when referring to the Oppo...? If yes, than no you would not choose pure direct in AVR. Not entirely sure pure direct would even work for a source connected via-HDMI, though I could be wrong.
If you are playing a CD thru the Oppo and have it also connected via-RCA using its analog outs, that is when you would choose pure direct.

Audyssey (like any other room correction system) is run by the processor; if you want to use Audyssey, then you MUST route the audio through the processor. Since the whole reason for using Direct Mode is to AVOID running the audio through the processor (and so through the ADCs and DACs on the receiver), this makes them mutually exclusive. That is what I thought. Makes me wonder why someone would purchase the OPPO for increased picture and sound quality when giving up the room correction (with Direct mode on the receiver) would be necessary to get the benifits? Really a catch 22 it seems to me. I was thinking I'd get an increase in sound and picture quality over my Sony BD5100 by purchasing the OPPO, but have become rather partial to the Auddessey's benifits.
Any opinions on this? From some who own the OPPO? And how you implement it?

Then when you watch a movie from your OPPO you are using the processor in your receiver and not the one in your OPPO? So, quality is really determined by the receiver and not the OPPO? Not "pure direct" just "direct mode".
