I just purchased a refurbished XPA-5 GEN 1 for $650. I'm hoping I will not regret the effort to save $ over the GEN 2? Still much better than anything I have owned!

Still much better than anything I have owned! well, no one can do anything about your thoughts of potential regret but you. i've owned a gen 1 XPA-5 & UPA-2 for years and have never looked back. i have never once looked at the gen 2 and thought about regret of not upgrading. i'm not saying the gen 2 amps are not good, i'm saying there is nothing wrong with gen 1. it's not like they overcame some design flaw that plauged gen 1 amps. enjoy what you have, many don't have that and wish they did. hold your head up, don't wait for us to make you feel better about a gen 1. hundreds to thousands of us proudly have gen 1 and love them. now, get your a$$ in gear and make some space for that new amp to play some music and watch a movie when you get it! life is unexpectedly short, enjoy what you have and when it's an XPA-5 of any generation, you've got a lot; go, prepare yourself.....

There is a large difference between the gen. 1 and gen. 2 XPA-5s. The gen 1. has a gain of 32, and the gen. 2 has a gain of 29. Any other differences require critical listening and scrutiny to perceive, and most can't.
Enjoy your awesome XPA-5!

Any other differences require critical listening and scrutiny to perceive, and most can't. Enjoy your awesome XPA-5! That and they changed power button color and the sides from silver to black. I seriously doubt there is a sonic difference. If they made the Gen 2 look more like a baby XPR with the vertical meters, then it would justify the price increase more since it looks like an upgrade. I just got the XPA-2 gen 2 and it sounds good, but I bet the gen 1 sounded just as good. It was just a way to raise prices...it's all good. Emotiva is still a great deal even with the modest price increase.
