Bought this amp on ebay last year--It works great however I do have a question. After I'm finished using it I leave it powered on. Within a few hours or so I notice its powered off and the red LED lights are blinking. I can easily reset the unit but is this normal? It happens all the time and is not a one time occurrence. The amp is working from a dedicated 20 amp receptacle I had installed last year. Any feedback appreciated.

It certainly doesn't sound normal, the following comes to mind: Does the amp have proper ventilation? (a couple inches all around) Are any other devices producing heat near the unit? (or a heat vent blowing that way) Have you checked all your speaker wires for stray strands possibly shorting? (amp and speaker end) Are your interconnect cables in good shape and well connected? (no hum entering the amp) If all that seems good then turn it off, disconnect everything from the amp (inputs and outputs) and turn it back on. If it still shuts down give Emo a call, if it stays on check your cables again and make sure your other components are properly connected.

I would call tech support to verify.

No, that is not normal behavior... and it does sound like either you have a heat issue, or your amp needs service. (If it's overheating, you should notice it's getting quite warm before shutting down.) While shorted wires, or even loose wires, can cause our protection to activate, it would be somewhat unusual for that to occur only after the amp has been on for a few hours, and not when music is playing. Thanks for the replies--it's not a heat issue as the amp is on a stand alone shelf about 4 feet up from the floor. I'll try unplugging it and see if the problem still occurs. Thanks again.

Original poster here--update Sept 30, 2014. Finally I have a working XPR5. It took two returns to the factory but on the second one it was determined that a transformer had caused damage to the chassis. Kudos to Emotiva for replacing my unit and a special thanks to Joe L. and Nick in service.
