I am not using my xda-2 very often with my main set up in the house, I have a 70's yamaha cr2020 receiver with a adcom amp, cheap sony cd player with some old DCM time windows set up in the garage. Would there be any benefit to get a analog to digital converter and hook up the xda-2 to the old receiver? If so what are the benefits, and is there a difference between a $10.00 converter and a $70.00 one? Thanks in advance for your input.

Really no pont in going A /D then back again.
Better to stream high quality from a computer or mobile device through the XDA2.

Well I've hooked the DAC up to cheap vintage speakers. It does make a difference in the sound. Is it worth it, well depends on how much you get out of it really. You'll have to make the judgment call.

I'm a bit confused here.... that receiver is an ANALOG receiver. The best possible sound quality is almost certainly going to be had by going from the CD player to the XDA-2, and from the XDA-2 direct to the amp. If you want to go through the receiver (maybe to use the tone controls, or whatever), you would take the analog output of the XDA-2 and connect it to the receiver, then connect the receiver to the amp. (The point there would be that the XDA-2 is a better DAC than the one in the CD player. Of course, this will require that your CD player have a digital output, which most do.) I can't see any scenario where going through a cheap ADC (or even an expensive one) would help. Cheap ADCs are almost all pretty poor quality anyway; for an ADC that sounds as good as the XDA-2, you're probably going to pay as much, or more, than what the XDA-2 costs - possibly a lot more. Sub $100 ones are all pretty bad. (If you're talking about converting the output of the receiver to digital, and then feeding that to the XDA-2, then, no, there is no benefit whatsoever to doing so.)
