I enjoy listening to internet radio on my Apple TV. Sadly, most stations have the annoying habit of interrupting longer music mid-song, and abruptly going on to the next; without apparent reason. It is really annoying; why do they do that? Is there some "fair use" rule that allows them to play only 2 minutes? Is the automated player confused about the song end? Short attention spans? Are they just evil? These are all free sites. /b

But I do highly recommend Radio Paradise run by a husband and wife team from Santa Barbara, its on iTunes radio as well as your Apple TV. Great eclectic mix of music all day long. Hope this helps.

I don't listen a lot to internet radio, but when I do then I listen mostly to Smoothjazz.com. No shortening of songs, and really relaxed music.

I doubt this is the way it's supposed to work and wonder if this is a network problem. I can think of a situation where if you temporarily drop your Internet connection, the station you're listening to starts playing a new song when the connection is restored and you re-login to the station. Can you listen to the same station on your computer, for example, and experience the same problem? Is your Apple TV connected to the router via wireless? If so, try connecting it with an Ethernet cable, or bypass your router and connect it directly to the modem. Eliminating potential culprits is the best way to troubleshoot this.
I suppose that some of the free sites might do this, though I doubt it. I know that Pandora plays long tracks all the way through and they're free (with limited advertising and some other minor limitations). Have you tried using them and do you have the same trouble?
