This journey stated when I decided to get into SACD's and in doing research I have come down to the three below...
Oppo BDP 83 - Will this produce a better picture/sound than my Xbox One and Play Better CD/SACD audio? Oppo DV-980H - If I decided to keep by Xbox for Bluray is this a better CD player than the Emotiva? Emotiva ERC (1 or 2) - Should I go the direction of not buying SACD and get a stand alone CD player?
I have an xbox one that I currently use for by Blu-ray's, however I am looking for something that will produce better sound quality for CD's and SACD's. Which of the above would be the best choice?

I have an xbox one that I currently use for by Blu-ray's, however I am looking for something that will produce better sound quality for CD's and SACD's. Which of the above would be the best choice? I am not able to compare any of your other source gear versus the XBOX as I have never viewed or listened to the XBOX. I own the OPPO DV-980H and can tell you that it plays very good CD and SACD sound quality, but I can tell you that the Emotiva ERC-1, ERC-2, and ERC-3 surpass the performance of the OPPO DV-980H. My Sony BDP-S790 retired my OPPO DV-980H as it was better in every nuance, audio and video. The Emotiva ERC-1/2/3 are the top performing CD player of the bunch. The Sony BDP-S790 and the current OPPO players are pretty much dead even on audio and video performance, but I would have to give the OPPOs an edge in features and flexibility. Where you are looking for a single player for your Blu-ray discs, CDs, and SACDs I would suggest either the Sony BDP-S790 or the OPPO BDP-103 or 105. For video and audio all three players are superb -- offering excellent performance all around. Good luck.

For video and audio all three players are superb -- offering excellent performance all around. Good luck. I have never owned an Xbox. I have owned an Oppo dv-970 and I Own a Sherbourn Cd-1 which I the same as a ERC-2. The Sherbourn /Emotivia sounds better than the DV-970 which is similar to the DV-980. I own a Sony BDP-5100 which is a step down from from Sony S790 but has been discountinued and is closing out at a price of only $80. It will play SACD, but through Digital COAX or HDMI only, it has no analog outputs. It has a great picture for both Blu-Ray and DVD upscaled. I don't think it as good as the $500 dollar Oppo-103 which a friend of mine has. The Cd audio is pretty good, but not up to Emotiva standards. The Sony Bdp -S790 is last years model and is being closed out at $179. I don't know if it has analog 7.1 outputs like the Oppo's. Since I didn't have the money and still don't for the Oppo 103. I ended up looking at older Oppo's and then universal players from 2003-2006 years. I found some fairly high end universal players from these years that don't play Blu-Ray DVDs. Players that retailed for $500 to $650 at that time are being sold for $70 to a $100 dollars on eBay. They have 5.1 analog outputs and digital outputs. Some have HDMI outputs but only at 480 resolution. I ended up buying a Denon DVD-1930ci with remote for $80 dollars. I use it for music only Cd's and SACD's in my HT set up in my family room. It does not sound as good as the Emotiva CD players, but it is a very close second. I also bought a Marantz DV-6500 universal player but does not play Blu-Ray which is good sounding for music, but I like the Denon better. I will be selling the Marantz. There is also a Denon DVD-2930ci that weights 10 pounds which is a step up from from my 1930 which is suppose to be very good. Those can be had for about $100 to $130 on eBay. You did not mention in your post what you are hooking your player up too. Is it digital inputs only or does it have 5.1 or 7.1 analog inputs also ? It makes a differance in how good the Sacd disks sound on how you hook it up. But for $160 dollars total I ended up with a very nice Blu-ray player and SACD player. I still lust for an Oppo 103 but for now what I have will do.

I have the Oppp 105 ($1200) that plays SACDs, high res audio files and Bluray. I also have the great sounding KEF speakers 205/2 that are flat to 60K Hz. The DACs in the Oppo sound warmer than the XDA-1 or 2. I recently added the XSP-1 Pre which is analog only and there was a signficant improvement in sound articulation; 1/2 from the Pre and 1/2 from using fully balanced interconnects from the Oppo to the Pre. Hope this helps.
