Just took delivery of a UMC-200 & UPA-700 last week...still fresh enough I haven't had a chance to take photos yet.
But I, of course, have taken the time to listen. First film was the newer Thor movie. Sounded great (and looked great), but was disappointed in the film itself.
At this point I'm still tweaking the system, but so far it already sounds fantastic! Trying to coordinate schedules with a friend to run a full REW manual EQ in the room...though even straight out of the box the system sounded better than the Sony ES-line AVR it replaced.
Trying to eliminate an HDMI handshake issue with my TiVo Premiere...I'm a cord-cutter, so my DVR options are very limited. I hope I can get this figured out, because as of now it's the only complaint I have with the UMC-200. Suggestions are welcome.
Excited to be here! I'll get some photos soon to post!

Welcome thrillcat, from another fellow Emotiva fan in Ames, Iowa. We may well be the only ones :-)

Welcome thrillcat. Sorry I cannot offer any sound assistance to your problem. However, do you think it could be a cable length problem? How old are the cables and are they securely fit? Are you in the right settings HDMI1 from processor to HDMI to display?
That's all the brain power I have at the moment.

Are you in the right settings HDMI1 from processor to HDMI to display? That's all the brain power I have at the moment. Thank you all for the warm welcome! The cables are all only a few months old - bought last fall. They're all nice, 1-meter cables, except the longer cable to the projector. They are definitely securely fit, and I have the right settings. Per Emotiva's advice, I've locked down all devices' resolution & audio settings to avoid them changing around - nothing is set to "automatic", it's all set specific to the given device. I've taken care of the issue at this point by running an optical cable between the TiVO and the UMC-200 for the audio. It's not ideal, I'm not a big fan of having to do a workaround on a brand new piece of gear, but the input was available, I still had the cable, and it doesn't involve any extra steps or button presses, so I'm okay with it for now. I'd still like to find an actual solution, however, and not a workaround.

HDMI handshake issues are a P.I.T.A., and sometimes it's just a question of which cable makes your system happy. It could be a Blue Jeans cable, or an Emotiva cable or a MonoPrice cable, there just doesn't seem to be any telling, and it's very frustrating. The best advice I can give is to post a thread with the specific problem in the title. This way if someone has the same equipment they can, hopefully, post their solution, and you don't have to re-invent the wheel.
There have been previous discussions of HDMI cables and handshake issues, and a search might turn up some info as well.

Thanks ElTwo, I did do a search, which is how I found the optical cable idea...HDMI is both fantastic and frustrating.

Welcome, thrillcat!
Glad to have you here. I'm in your area of the country this week, but heading home to Louisiana as I type. I hope you appreciate the warmth I hauled up here with me! LOL

I'd still like to find an actual solution, however, and not a workaround. I had a this problem about a year and a half ago. The handshake revolved around a Sony BDP CX7000ES and my new Mitshubishi HD6800. The cable I was using was a BJC which I was using prior with my Infocus projector and a Sony single disc player and it performed flawlessly. However with the Sony Mega player I was constantly losing the picture and or the picture would break up. I went back to the Home Theater Store where I purchased the Sony and they offered me a Tributeries HDMI cable (brown edition). Once I connected the Tributaries cable it was like magic. The picture was beautiful and rich in color. The problem was that I had a 35' run from my projector to the Sony and the cost of the Tributaries cable for that length was $400.00. That's a lot of SCOBIES as one of my former High School teacher from many many years ago would say. I believe in having good quality cables. They are an important piece of the your HT or 2channel system. That being said I had no intention of spending that kind of money. That amount would have represented a third of the cost of my Blu Ray player. The conclusion was I returned the Sony and purchased the Oppo 93 using my BJC and have not looked back. While the Oppo is not a Mega disc player I feel I sacrificed quantity for quality. I wanted to share this story with you b/c a handshake in your system I realized is not just a cable but the right combination of products.

I wanted to share this story with you b/c a handshake in your system I realized is not just a cable but the right combination of products. I wish Oppo made a DVR. This is great information to have, though. The cables I use are by no means $400 cables, but I've had good luck with them. With my original AVR I was having dropout issues with the HDMI cable I was using when I first got the projector. I swapped it out with this, which is the cable I'm still using from the UMC-200 to the Optoma HD20. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LQ83EI/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1After putting this cable in, the dropout problem has never returned. Then I went through a couple more AVRs, and now the Emotiva gear. Last fall when I remodeled my room, I bought new HDMI cables for all the components. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061RJSWC/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1I've had no issues with any HDMI handshakes until I brought in the UMC-200. I have it sorted out for now, and since this is a theater only setup, I don't see any other gear coming in that would need that optical input, so I guess I'm going to be okay with it for now. At some point, perhaps I'll upgrade the TiVo to a Roamio, or maybe one of the Channel Master DVRs and see if I have any better luck with those. The TiVO in there is 4 1/2 years old, so it could very well be the problem. Though it's frustrating when it has been working just fine and then it doesn't. Anyway, I promised a photo...here is a quick one I snapped last night. cdn.avsforum.com/4/4f/900x900px-LL-4f74a10a_photo.jpeg
