Lasers look but don't touch but a TT drags a stylus across a surface. That is the inherent flaw. Yeah but some people are touchy/feely and some are not. There's room for both. Yes, of course there's room for all,,,,,that's why we're all here, I love picking,,,,but in all honesty,,,,,I love my music any way I can get it. I could write all day about which form factor is best,,,,,and I can tell you absolutely that the best is,,,,,,,,,,,,, What ever your listening to at the time!!!!!!! : ) Nick

i just bought a denon dp-62l turntable im running xpr-1 amps, xsp-1 gen 2 pre, erc-3 cd player with acoustat model 4 full range electrostatic speakers, all cables are mogambi gold xlr and speaker wires are audio quest caldera cables......my problem is that i was using a pro-ject rpm 1.3 genie turntable and i would here good bass with this turntable, since i connected the denon i don't get that same bass, evrything sound very bright. When i would play the cd or steam music i would get a awsome bass tone. so i tried back and fourth with both turntables and the same thing, the denon wouldn't give me that bass sound that im use to. Is this normal for the denon, because ive heard greatthings about this turntable....is there something i need to do.....the cartridge is a orfoton 2m. Is the problem the catridge, or my system, or speakers. the ones he had were not in the same class as mine....but i did here some bass, and his speakers were smaller than mine, his listening room was that of a small freshman dorm, my room has a 15+foot ceiling....your help would be much needed thanks emo lounge...mark This might be a silly question, but did you happen to disconnect the speakers for any reason and then hook them back up out of phase?

It never will, just like a 56 Edsel isn't a 14 Mercedes. You can still like both just realize the limitations of TT's

Porcheguy-
You are the one who waded into this thread to start an argument. The OP asked for help getting the bass to sound right with his TT. How have your comments helped him with his TT?

I wasn't trying to start any argument at all, I was just trying to being a bit humorous. I do find interesting that many guys are disappointed at their TT's performance because they benchmark it against a CD which is not a fair fight. I have a really nice Denon TT but it doesn't come close to sounding like a CD. I think people should look at turntables in a nostalgic way and not have a real high expectation. I'm not sure it was God's intention to replicate music by dragging a needle over a piece of vinyl. It's a flawed method in so many ways. I have a Nakamichi cassette player that KILLS any LP I've ever heard in SQ. That should be the focus in my view. Cassettes have many obvious advantages when compared to vinyl. As far as this thread goes, again, if you don't like, stay away. I'd say 95% of all the threads here I do not respond to because I have no interest or they are so silly and repetitive I just shake my head and move on.

I can't stop the fact that from time to time I play vinyl records. I enjoy doing it too. I have 100's of LP's, and a few thousand 45's and they do sound good. Not great, a bit shallow, but some of that music is not replaceable on digital. For 8 years during my youth, I worked in a record shop. '61 to '68 some of my fondest memories.

And you should if you enjoy it because there's nothing wrong with playing LP's. The only point I was (trying) to make was vinyl is great fun and nostalgic to some like a 57 Chevy might be someone else.

This would, I think, be similar to what you might hear if the speakers were not connected correctly. Or you might be hearing the difference between the Denon and the Pro-ject.

Congrats !! Glad you are happy with your TT now. I love Grado carts. I think they sound the most rounded SQ wise and they are not real expensive.
