Hi everyone!
I am new to Emotiva and recently purchased the Fusion 8100 to drive my 5.1 setup from NHT. I am happy with the receiver thus far but have a question about the Midnight Mode. I am used to seeing only 2 settings when it comes to dynamic range compression... ON or OFF.
The Fusion 8100 has 3 settings: OFF / ON / AUTO.
Does anyone here know what the difference is between ON and AUTO?
Your help is appreciated.

I'm truly speculating, but here's my guess:
"On" does two things - Reduces amplitude peaks and increases amplitude valleys. So quiet dialogue & sounds are raised in level while explosions are reduced in level.
"Auto" does but one thing - Reduces the amplitude peaks.
Of course, I'm probably totally wrong (as usual)! LOL

LOL Thanks for the response. Why are you choosing to guess that AUTO only reduces peaks? Couldn't it just as easily be that AUTO only amplifies valleys? I guess I am asking for some logic behind the guess. It is an educated guess? If so, based on what are you making this guess? Thanks!

As I understand it there are some HD formats that already have some compression "built" in to them. "Auto" enables the format to utilize them on those discs. I still don't get it as to why? I always turn mine to off and forget about it.
