Mr Carver is finished modifying my cherry 180's to run the KT-150 tubes and wanted to know how I wanted him to autograph them. Should I get him to personalize them to me or just have him sign his name only. I don't think I will ever sell them but you all know how that goes..... I think if they are personalized it may hurt their value. What do you think?

Hmmm...that's a really good question.
Personally, I always like to get autographs of just the person's name. I don't plan on selling the ones I have either, but you never know. In the autograph collecting world, many celebrities/famous people charge more for no personalization, especially when items other than photographs are signed, as a lot of the time they are acquired by autograph companies for resale.
As these are VERY expensive components, I think it would look better/cleaner with just his name. You could always have him personalize something else for you at the same time, if he is willing.
Just my opinion,
C

Personalized or not, they are still Bob Carver amps and there will always be a market for them. if you want best of both worlds, get something personalized but without addressing it to you, if that makes sense. That way you get something unique but not exclusionary to prospective buyers.

Agree with thrillcat. I say have Bob Carver autograph them with no personalization at all. Should you be forced to sell the amps for whatever reason you won't have another reason for someone to take away your re-sale value. I remember a seller having a pair of Odyssey monoblocks that were autographed and personalized to the buyer and when the buyer was forced to sell them some prospective buyers were complaining about the personalized autograph.

In general, with any autographed "memorabelia", having a personalized autograph hurts the resale value. (Since amps are more utilitarian than baseballs, I would expect this to be less true for an amp). However, a personal autograph may impress your friends more. (I guess it depends on whether you like Bob, or just his amps... ) Mr Carver is finished modifying my cherry 180's to run the KT-150 tubes and wanted to know how I wanted him to autograph them. Have a personalized message in that it is more than just his signature but it doesn't say To/Dear your name.

^^^^ I like it...
I'd just have his signature somewhere visible... and then have an personalized message on the back or bottom.

Make sure you have him date it. He's no spring chicken.

Mine was more of a joke - have Bob write on there that it is the best he's ever done, that way you can officially say it's the best Carver mod available if you decide to sell it. Apparently I'm not as funny as I thought.

I too have personalized message on both of my amps. They were a 2 year long journey for me and Bob to complete them and I felt having that message would add some credibility to the build. That personalization is on the back of the transformer cover. The front has a signature plate, which we both signed together.

My vote would be for a plain autograph, just in case.

I asked him to just sign one of the transformer covers. I figured i would keep it simple with just the one autograph.

I'm not concerned with the autograph either way. I'd like to know what he did to the amps though.
Details?

I have no real desire to go into the SS stuff as tubes are my main interest, but I contribute where I can and my input is warranted.
