Ok. So the firmware reinstall worked for the sound. But now the remote control is screwy. I put new batteries in it so I know that's not the issue. Now the remote only works half of the time. Also when I push the volume up button the volume goes up as expected but when I hit volume down, it continues to go up until I let let it sit for a minute. Then if I hit volume down, it will go down, but if I hit volume up it will still go down. Basically I have to let it sit for a while before trying to change the volume direction. Weird. I still haven't received a response from Emotiva, so if I don't hear anything by wednesday I will call. Not sure it would help, but did you do a factory reset after the flash? Yeah I did, but I will try it again to see if it helps. I am going to program my universal remote tonight to see if it is just the remote itself going screwy or if it is something with the SR-120. If it is the SR-120 I am going to again reflash the firmware and see if that makes it any better. Thanks for the help to all. If anyone has any other suggestions I am open to trying them at least until I have a chance to call Emotiva on Wednesday.

Just wanted to follow up. I have reflashed the firmware twice now. The first reflash brought back the sound but the remote was a little wacky. I decided to live with it since everything was working other than the remote. After a few weeks, the same symptoms returned. Audio would drop out and come back. Eventually only a reboot would fix it, so I reflashed the firmware the second time. This time everything seemed to work perfect (remote fixed to) but alas the audio has started going out again only a week or so after the reflash. I pulled the SR-120 once it got to the point that there was more silence than sound. Currently I am awaiting Emotiva's response from my support request. insert sad face.

I own two SR-120's and I have the sound drop off as well, usually noticeable after changing cable channels and such. The receiver seems to reboot the surround decoder whenever a change from 2.0 sound to 3/2/1/LFE is switched by the broadcast channel. For example, when watching a movie the signal is 5 or 7 channel the signal stays on and works without drop off. When the channel goes to a commercial that is no longer broadcast in 5 channel surround but rather basic 2.0 the receiver seems to reboot and the sound drops off momentarily while the decoder adjusts for the new mode.
I have lived with it since day one and really do not worry about it that much anymore. Sometimes the sound drop off is longer but most times the drop off is only five seconds or less. When the sound does drop off for longer I simply change channels, then change back and the sound usually reboots.
The white jaggies you speak of can be taken care of simply by unplugging the HDMI in from your sources and going directly from bluray to tv, cable box, etc. This way each channel can bypass the HDMI for video and you can use the digital optical or digital coax for the quality sound and amplification you want without the video decoding which a previous member suggested. As he said most video sources can provide quality decoding without the need to internally decode again through the receiver. I hope these suggestions solve your problems.
By the way, I have never reflashed either receiver so maybe I am missing out but the sound and video is incredible through the SR-120 and I would regret it if something else was compromised by a reflash.

Your description of what you experience with audio drop out is not what I was experiencing. My audio drop out would last for as long as I would leave the SR-120 running. It would occur in the middle of shows, beginning of commercials, end of commercial, no change with channel changes, and eventually would persist even after a reboot. It seemed to just happen randomly. But thanks for the heads up as to what is normal audio drop off. I would hate to think something was still wrong if I began only experiencing what you described. PS the jaggies haven't come back since the first reflash and Emotiva had me send it in to them. Should be there on Tuesday, hopefully they figure something else out.

Sorry to hear that your issues were more substantial. I hope Emotiva gets everything worked out for you this time.
