I downloaded the remote app from Oppo and have (limited) control of the Oppo 103 via Nook. My stupid questions are: is that strictly a wi-fi function, or would it be possible to do for a USP-1? My main rig is in the basement and, geezer that I've become, I sometimes have trouble negotiating stairs. Even on/off would be super. Thanks in advance for knowledgeable replies. George

The best way I know of to do what you are talking about is the Logitech remote that includes a smart phone app. Can't recall the model name for that one, but you could check Logitech's site. My brother-in-law has one and likes it.

^ Any of the Logitechs with the Harmony hub will do what you want. I have the Harmony Ultimate and my son has the Smart Control. Either of those will work. I can control my system from anywhere in the house and within reach of my wireless network.

Well I looked up the Harmony and it looks like $90 is the lightest touch on the wallet for a refurb of a discontinued remote. Seems kinda steep to me but, also, if Harmony can make an app available to control an Emotiva product, why can't or doesn't Emo do it? ... Just sayin'. George

George Whatever you use will require an IR blaster, because your phone won't have one built in. Your pre-pro isn't talking to your home network, so it can't control it over IP. There is a lot more to it than just the app. Before you drop $90 on the Harmony, make sure you are also getting the hardware required or you'll end up spending more. As it stands, the Emotiva units and apps aren't speaking the same language. There needs to be an interpreter.

George For $99 the Harmony Hub will do it as long as the smartphone/tablet approach is good enough(no remote comes with it). The hub is an IR blaster that connects to your phone via wifi. That is what I use when not in the room where my Emotiva gear is. For $129 you get the hub with their smart remote...I chose to save $30. Works well...highly recommend!

Some manufacturers do indeed make apps to run their equipment and Emo is planning that with the XMC. But then you'd need myriad apps to control all you stuff. The Harmony can work with all manufacturers equipment and that allows the activities that make the Harmony so convenient.

Not to hijack your thread but I have a similar question. I just got a Galaxy S5 and it does have an IR transmitter built in. I took a quick look at some universal remote apps in the store but nothing I could find had Emotiva listed as a brand. And they all looked pretty basic. Does harmony (or anyone else) have an app that would work like one of there universals? Or something that could be programmed for activity based control?

Thanks all for the replies. So if I understand correctly, the USP-1 needs to react to an IR blaster while the tablet can activate the blaster via wi-fi. Makes perfect sense, I shoulda realized that (DOH!)- still a very cool chain of events! Now to convince the better half to dig up a hundred clams for her very own ONE REMOTE TO RULE THEM ALL, PRECIOUS! and just not mention the hub, (which, btw, would need to be positioned within line of sight to the USP-1. Please correct me if I've got that wrong.)
