I read somewhere, I forgot which forum or other source, that Marantz processors use a European scheme on their XLR connections. This got me worrying if this means that they can not be used to connect Emotiva Amps using the XLR connections. Does anyone know anything about this and has anybody used XLR connections with Emotiva Amps and Marantz processors.
Thanks for any replies.

XLR pin assignments are 98% standard now. PIN 1 is ground, PIN 2 is positive and PIN 3 is negative. Real old cables could get you in trouble so check all PIN number assignments first.

I've made XLR cables myself, it was really easy I suggest you to check yours Marantz manual they have schematics for XLR and compare it with Emotiva. I've used Neutric XLR connectors (very good build quality) and piece of cable

Looking at the back of this Marantz AV8801, note there is an XLR schematic on the back showing how XLR's are wired. They seem to be wired nomally, 1- Ground, 2- Hot, 3- Cold

Thanks guys. The info is helpful. I guess I just go confused by the European language.

Several users here are using the latest Marantz AVPs with Emotiva amps with no issues. Great combo!

Personally using the Marantz av7701 combined with XPR-5, and two XPR-1's. Also using Emotiva xlr cables. Loving it without issue!

Loving it without issue! you have an Oppo in your system? just curious as I also have the xpr-1 monos, one xpr-5 and was thinking of using the 7701 or 8801, but now that I have the 105D I'm thinking I'll ditch the marantz idea and use the 105D as a pre.

I don't have the Oppo in my system. I currently use a PS3 for Blu Ray movies, and a desktop pc with Nvidia 560ti as video sources. I personally do like the Oppo players in general, but I personally prefer the versatility of a "proper" pre-processor which limits the Oppo's advantages IMO.
