All I know is the analog stage will go head to head with at minimum the USP-1

Hi everyone I was wondering which would sound better: erc-3/ DC-1 or erc-3/ XSP-1 Gen2? Thanks The rest of your gear and your intended usage will dictate which path to take. Either combination will produce outstanding sound reproduction. Your decision should be based on what other components you have or plan on acquiring. Do you have a need for control over additional digital gear or is your need slanted for switching/controlling analog devices? The output stage and DAC in the ERC-3 and the DC-1 are nearly identical, so the primary reason for purchasing the CD-1 would be for switching between various digital components. The XSP-1 Gen2 has several advantages that may appeal to you... analog bass management, high quality phono stage, home theater integration, external processor loop, etc, etc.

the main reason I was asking was because the dc-1 has dual DACs vs the erc-3 which has one dac... does anyone think the dual dacs vs one will make a difference?

I have no doubt that it will make a difference, the real question is will you be able to hear it? Personally I know I can't, not with my ears, my speakers in my room. The ERC-3 just sounds fantastic, easily the best CD reproduction that I've ever heard. Cheers Gary

It should be very, very close...roadrunner hit it right...go w/your intended use and needs on those fronts.
I like the DC-1 because I now play music off a hard drive from a computer, so having the USB in for that and still have other digital and analog inputs for use is extremely handy. And the sound is great,so I am making no compromise in sound for my use needs.

Handyman, I didn't see you get an answer, but the answer is "it depends". If you already have a DAC in your system that is as good or better, then no. If you don't, then you very possibly will...it is a great DAC.
When factor in that plus the use aspects noted above AND that it can double as a preamp. So, if you only need 2-channel and already have a preamp...the DC-1 can replace it and may sound better than the DC-1 though your current preamp, depending on how good your preamp is.
Hope that helps,
Mark

By using two DAC chips, each in "differential mono" configuration, the DC-1 gains a few dB in S/N, and a slightly better distortion figure. I honestly doubt you'd hear either. However, it also has a better power supply, and a few other circuit refinements (like an ASRC), which do contribute to its sounding slightly better... but the difference is subtle. the main reason I was asking was because the dc-1 has dual DACs vs the erc-3 which has one dac... does anyone think the dual dacs vs one will make a difference?

I would reccomend a DC-1 coupled to ANY CD DVD or blu ray player. It's because the DAC is the most important part and not the CD player itself because in this case the cheap CD player will act as a transport. Now some people may debate the merits / cons of using a cheap cd player as a transport but this is my opinion and reccomendation. It also allows you more flexibility. For instance you can connect any other digital devices you have like your cable box, your computer, your game console, your blu ray movie player etc and get the same superb quality. If you have a pair of headphones, then the DC-1 will do a really nice job of driving them too. It does have a better headphone amp than the XSP-1 does - if that matters to you.

I love my ERC-3. Still notice a slight motor noise now and again but I can tune it out and mid volumes and higher. I would think the DAC set up with the ERC-3 would sufficient to almost anyone's ears. I find it very enjoyable and musical. Glad I bought one.
