Could make this post short and just say "wow".
I once had a ~ $12,000 system before I fell on hard times. Now I have a used Arcam amp, some new Kef bookshelf speakers and the ERC-3. And I can truly say this is the best system I've ever owned. I can only imagine what it will do with floorstanding speakers.
The ERC-3 is incredible. It almost seems intelligent, as though it knows how to behave for each genre, each track.
There is detail and richness. There's warmth and precision. There is wide open soundstage and yet accurate placement of each and every instrument. Even in the loudest orchestral passage you can pick out individual instruments.
What an amazing machine. I'm telling everyone who will listen to me. This is a must buy if you have a CD collection that you value.

I don't understand. Granted the 103 does not match the CD-1 or the DC-1 but I don't follow your train of thought, please I lighten me. Nick

Nick I doubt they would sound any different, I really just don't need a external DAC, I have a Schitt Modi USB DAC for my Mac Mini so I can listen to quality music in my main zone plus my extra zones through my 7030 and I have nothing else I would need an external DAC for, I just really like the sound of the ERC-1 to 7030 Chad

I don't understand. Granted the 103 does not match the CD-1 or the DC-1 but I don't follow your train of thought, please I lighten me. Nick I haven't heard the ERC-3. However there are some key design differences in the two. The ERC-3 has no analog resistor on a chip volume control. It is minus that component as it has no use it due to it outputing a fixed volume. Not having this component may be beneficial in terms of a shorter signal path/less stuff to introduce noise. The DC-1 has no spinning CD motor to deal with it which may (or may not) impact the power supply in a good way. But the biggest difference is that The DC-1 has two DAC's in it both operating in mono mode. And since it is a balanced DAC you would have a balanced dual mono DAC design. The ERC-3 has a single DAC operating in stereo mode. Whether this translates into an audibly different sound I have no idea.

Don't forget Garbulky that if using the DC-1 with a CD player of any brand it will as well have a motor, recently I have been noticing the difference of a simple system compared to a bunch of gear in the chain, as I have mentioned I love the way my ERC-1 sounds connected to my 7030 and my 7030 connected to my XPA-1L's using all balanced connections, that being said it is even better to my ears when going ERC-1 to unbalanced Control Freak to XPA-1L's. When I want the best experience listening to 2 channel I use the ERC-1, Control Freak and XPA-1L's, it's not night and day from the 7030 in the chain but IMO it's the best my system can sound, also IMO the analog out on the ERC CD players are amazing, no external DAC needed Chad

Glad to hear that you like your ERC-3 the same as I like mine, truly an amazing bit of gear. I ve read some post Gary about the erc 3 having a loud noise making motor do you notice yours? thanks Nope, just the usual tray loading sounds, then when the CD starts to play it's next to silent. In between tracks I might just be able to hear the spin motor if I stick my ear next to it, but from the listening position there's nothing audible. Cheers Gary

Something tells me it was one of the previous XMC-1 designs before they decided to go with DIRAC etc.
