Might be a stoopid question but while I have tried my Schitt Modi and Magni out together and love the sound they produce together I actually intend having the Magni connected to PT-7030 as my Modi is for between my Mac Mini and PT-7030 for use as a DAC for my main system and my zone duties as the 7030 cannot use any of it's digital inputs for audio in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th zones. My question is would I be okay connecting the Magni to the analog Rec Out of my PT-7030, you can choose which input to use for the Rec Out on the 7030 which is great I'm just wondering if the fixed output level is safe for the Magni, this might be a question for a knowledgeable Emotiva staff member but any help is appreciated. I'm pretty sure I'm safe but always better to double check right Chad

Hey Chad, The Rec Out should be a typical line-level output, which is safe for the Magni. If you have an AC-compatible multimeter and are feeling adventurous, play a steady sine wave (60 Hz or 440 Hz etc.) and compare the output voltage of the Rec Output to the output voltage of your Modi. You don't need to have your speakers/amps turned on for this. EDIT: I don't have a PT-7030, but I do have a UMC-1 with a Record Out which should be a similar. I've used the Record Out for several things over the years. You wouldn't want to connect the Rec Out directly to an amp with no level control (like your XPA-1L), but you can connect it to the mini-X or headphone amps with volume controls (such as your Magni).

I was waiting for an Emotiva employee to respond as requested. But since they didn't, I'm going to agree with Dark Ranger. As an associate engineer in electronics, I can tell you that the record out jack is the perfect source for you to use with the headphone amp.

Yeah, I decided to reply since he included the clause "but any help is appreciated." Didn't want to make him wait too much longer, haha! I know what it feels like to want to enjoy the gear ASAP.

Hey guys thanks for the input, I was pretty sure it would be okay, I've just never used an audio/rec out before. When I setup the Magni it was sitting there turned on for about a minute and my headphones just started distorting loudly(I didn't have them on) and the volume was at near minimum so I quickly turned it off, upon further inspection I ended up resolving it by pushing up on the headphone jack while the headphones were plugged in and it went away, but if I bend it down too much it starts doing it again. Seems okay now but scared the crap out of me and seems like it is shorting out or something, otherwise it sounds great Chad

That definitely sounds like an issue with the Magni rather than the PT-7030. But I can understand the concern after something like that.
