Until Easter, the sizes are small and the prices are high. After Easter, Cajun lobsters become easier to obtain. Our company picnic was always held after Easter for this reason. Each picnic involved the boiling of 10,000 pounds of crawfish plus sausage, onions, corn-on-the-cob, hot dogs, and potatos. It was fun!

On our calendar Easter is on a different date (and often month) each year. So why would this be a dividing point for the type and cost of lobsters? Do the suppliers use Easter as an arbitrary line? It is an artifact of the predominant (Catholic religion) culture of South Louisiana. During "Lent," many Catholics refrain from eating meat on Fridays and instead eat seafood. Other Catholics refrain from consuming meat for the entire duration of Lent. Because demand for seafood (and particularly crawfish) is high during Lent, supplies are short and prices are high. After Easter (the end of Lent), the demand for crawfish drops significantly, leaving higher-quality mudbugs at lower prices for the rest of us. Louisiana, curiously, is a state divided by religion. The southern half of the state is predominantly Roman Catholic while the northern half is predominantly Southern Baptist. Beliefs differ significantly between the two groups, leading to spirited debates in the state legislature. North Louisiana residents refer to the southerners as "drinking, gambling, sinful, 'let the good times roll' Catholics." The Southern Louisiana residents refer to the northerners as "small-minded, don't-dance, don't-drink, don't swim in pools with the opposite gender, Bible-thumping idiots." There is at least some truth in both characterizations... Either way, it leads to making the State an interesting place to live!

So, in other words, "about average" for around here.

You know what I like about novisnick - he KEEPS the audio gear that he buys. He may not use it all in the same system or at the same time, but it's there when he wants it. A good man!

Thanks Boomzilla I’m happy with what I have so I have much more time to enjoy it. True enough that I have multiple systems in one room and some of those systems can utilize parts from other systems. Mrs and I enjoy every configuration immensely!

Well, it's May and Summer is here in the South. The weather forecast is identical every day from now until Christmas - Hot and muggy in the morning with afternoon to evening thundershowers. The only exception is if a hurricane blows through.
I've managed to contact the "County Agent" (called the "Parish Agent" here in Louisiana, after the Catholic Church's Parishes) about what to plant in my backyard to provide visual privacy. I'm curious to see what he might recommend.
Grass and vines grow so quickly in this weather that mowing is a mostly weekly event (if the neighbors can see that part of the yard) or at least an every other week event (unless you want to scythe the yard before mowing).
And one final oddity about my home State - Louisiana is the only State in the Union whose laws are based on Napoleonic Code. Every other State in the Union has State laws based on English Common Law. Since the majority of foreign countries still use laws based on the Napoleonic Code, many lawyers who plan to specialize in international law come to Louisiana law schools. True!

Avoid bamboo for screening unless you have acres to cover. I planted clumping bamboos to use as screening. Ten years ago it was great. Looked good and fairly easy to keep in bounds. Now, its growing faster than I keep up with and its overtaken too much of the yard. Also, the leaves are forever making a mess. I'm actively removing it and its quite the chore.

The LSU Tigers are one game away from the National Baseball Championship... Playing against Florida. Since I'm an LSU alumnus - Go Tigers!
