and have already returned it. I have been looking for a new Home theater receiver and had narrowed my decision down to the newly introduced Pioneer receivers for 2014 and the Emotiva Fusion 8100. I was interested in the Pioneer because of the new Saber DAC chips that they are using in there audio output section and the fact that it has Apple Airplay built in to the Receiver plus it has 2.0 HDMI. Because the store did not have a demo unit set up yet. I bought the unit not being able to listen to it. I got it home tore apart my entertainment center which has limited space for components ( which is why I need a receiver, no room for separates processor and amp) and started to through the setup process for the unit. I ran into some problems setting up the receiver, but finally got it equalized. I started to listen and thought "I must of screwed up the equalization setup". I redid the set up and listened again. The unit had a huge emphases on the higher midrange frequencies and I did not like the sound for music. I then manually set up the unit and it was somewhat better for music but still had that midrange emphasis. I used Pioneers neat app to try and equalize out this hump in the midrange but could not get the system set up to my liking.
I must say that the VSX-80 was assume for movies and the picture quality was first rate, but I only watch movies 20% of the time on this system. The rest of the time I use for music listening. In the end I could not justify spending $700 for a unit that I was not in love with the sound of. So back to the store it went.
Now I will try the Fusion 8100. From what limited reviews on the board it seems to be a very good SQ unit. My only decision now is to buy the Fusion now with my 20% e-member ship discount that ends July 31st or to wait till Emotiva on the Road comes to L.A. on 8/31 and possibility that it will be less at the show. Has anybody that has been to any of the road shows give me a clue or hint to the discounts that Emotiva is giving when they go on the road ?
