I'm impressed with these test results. Makes you wonder how much more can be done with the RMC. whats an rmc? thanks Reference-Series Media Controller. UMC-1 proc with UPA-2 amp XMC-1 proc with XPA-2 amp RMC-1 pro with XPR-2 amp You get the idea now...

Can't wait to see what you have in store. No doubt I'll be buying it, too. Please give us 13.1 fully balanced so we can use wides and 4 ceiling speakers for Atmos plus the normal 7.1. Never too early for an RMC sign up list. Ah yes! Makes perfect sense and thus the mains analog section ribbon to single ended inputs connector PCB. It would be very easy to change out the volume and converters between variants. SMART

It means it kicks pretty much everyone's @$$. I think you've just leaked a brand new slogan for this product. "The Emotiva XMC-1: It kicks everyone's asses."

Hi,
Quick question re the subs on the XMC-1 Can the run my subwoofer on 2 channel, and also have full range left and right mains? Without any processing getting in the way? Something I miss on the UMC 1..... Looking forward to getting my hands on this.
Thanks in advance.

Based on test data and specifications, any thoughts on the XMC-1 vs. DC-1 DAC for 2-channel listening?

The used prices have plummeted. A parasound p5 is looking pretty good at around a $1000

Unless if course people are ranting and raving about Dirac and the xmc1

wow... According to this, Balanced to Balanced 2ch THD and SNR are better than XSP-1 !!?? Exactly. We have been saying all along that the plan was to make it so it was all you needed. With performance specs like this, you don't need a separate pre-amp. I hope this helps. Lonnie Hi Lonnie. Any thoughts on which outputs can be considered differential reference or quad-differential/fully balanced from end to end? Is it the front two only? We've had two different reports on this.

Thanks You really wouldn't want to run your mains full range with your sub. You need crossovers and processing to accurately blend the sub with your mains. Otherwise you would have a boomy mess.

Yes I ofcource have a passive crossover Marchand XM46 to my mains and are cutting the subwoofers internally, both are cut at 100Hz. I want to be able to use this configuration with the XMC-1 and with no processing or passing through a AD/DA conversion, I use the PEQ in my SVS SB13-Ultra subwoofers. I have a really good turntable Bergmann Magne and I don't want do to a AD/DA conversion but i like be able to use my monitors plus subwoofers in the analog only mode if it's possible.

Sounds like you're basically wanting a "pure direct" signal path with a subwoofer output. I'm not aware of any Processor that offers this but I can see how you would like this if your mains don't go low enough. This is why I sold my previous 2 way speakers and went with full range speakers because I like a direct analog signal from my turntable.

Yes exactly, I do want an "pure direct" path for both my stereo speakers and subwoofers if it was possible, I would also rather use fullrange speakers (The Gallo Reference 3.5 is almost fullrange) but I have problems to get the stereo speakers working (In the bass) in the place they had to be in my room but by cutting them and placing the subwoofers at a much better place acoustically I am getting a great balanced sound. If the XMC-1 can't use the subwoofer output in direct mode I will be using an Sonance AL2 so that I can switch between stereo & LF output from the XMC-1 but I hope I can skip that.

Not sure how this will work on the XMC-1, but I can tell you how others do it. Brian is right that as soon as you go Pure Direct it doesn't work. Remember, this is trying for the cleanest signal path possible and that means no crossovers - no digital conversion at all. On most processors, there is something called Stereo (my UMC-1 has this) and that WILL introduce some processing - including room correction and subs. But it does convert into the digital domain to do it, so it's not the purest signal path. That's basically what the AL2 is doing.
I am guessing that the XMC-1 will have something similar to Stereo (with the processing), so there might be a way to do it without the Sonance. I would A/B to see which one does the least damage sonically.

Yes I suspect that the XMC-1 in Pure Direct is outputting a signal to the stereo outputs only, the Sonance AL2 isn't converting the signal at all it's totally passive, it's a pure switch function that has sensing on the input signal.
I could live with a function that was pure direct to the main speakers and had processing/bass management for the subwoofers.

Everyone, Dan and company are busy preparing an updated XMC-1 page for Monday, however in the meantime I've been given the go ahead to share the XMC-1 AP test data with all of you. This is not a cherry-picked unit. This test data was gleamed from a random XMC-1 pulled straight off the line, and that will be shipped to an eager customer soon. The numbers you're seeing here represent those of actual production units and not a test mule. Also, look for the manual on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone! Are you folks still on it? I'd hoped to get a copy of the manual so I can take it with me on Holiday...
