Brought my old vintage Hafler DH 500 amplifier out of storage. No longer had in my possession the Monster Cable with banana plugs I had used originally way back when. Bought a pair of the Emotiva cables with banana plugs at both ends. The banana plugs on the new Emotiva cable will not insert into old Hafler amp binding posts. I know I used banana plugs before and they inserted firmly and tightly with entire shaft of plug "snapping" into the amps binding posts. As noted...new banana plug will barely insert...only about an eighth of an inch and basically falls right out. Very puzzled as I think banana plugs are fairly standard and unchanged from 30+years ago. Anyone experience anything similar with older equipment? For the record...there is no plastic insert to be removed from binding post interior as there is with other / newer components. Guess I'll have to try an adapter I found online for standard banana plug to "mini" banana plug. Unless someone has better advice or info.

You did try unscrewing the banana's to their full out position, rather than screwed to the fully closed position?

Hi Wrangler I have an Accuphase E202 integrated that was given to me and it has screws terminals in the back to connect speakers too. Now to connect a set of Banana Plugs to the amp I got these adapters. They do the job well and I have no issues with them.

Thanks folks...I bought a set of the connectors / adapters exactly as pictured and they should do the trick. I could easily loosen the cap on the amp binding posts and use the pin connector. The Emotiva cable banana plug can be removed and there's a nice gold plated pin underneath...but I do prefer the banana plugs. Talked to some Hafler service people and they backed up what I discovered...that the old Hafler binding post had a shallow well for the plugs...basically a "mini" banana plug I guess. The amps been sitting in a closet for about 30 years. I'd forgotten that.
