im a noob and either i am no bueno at the search feature here... or the evidence i need is hidden i was given a budget for a 2 channel stereo in our main living room. now i could get quite a few things with this budget but i am very interested in the airmotiv5, 6, or stealth 6 (my personal favorite). our main listening room is a 17x18 space with the dining room and kitchen on the back of it adding another 17x17. there are no treatments up for sound at the moment but that can come to meet the needs of the stereo. these speakers will be MY listening area. i know eventually she will want a TV in there and then the speakers will be used for TV as well.. but MY main interest is music. i plan on having an xda-2 DAC to run as a pre-amp. we have a decent sized sofa table she would LIKE for them to sit on but i am not opposed to stands. i will eventually add a subwoofer if necessary but i am not convinced it will be. IF i do not achieve this feet of convincing her within the next 20 hours, we will most likely end up with an xda-2 + upa-200 + monitor audio rx6 speakers as our main set up. dont get me wrong... i am NOT mad at that option... but i really think that the emotiva would be nice, smaller (HUGE factor for her), cheaper, and possibly better. so can you guys help me out here?

If you can go for the DC-1. I think it is worth the price difference.

Not exactly haha I do see how I was quite vague I CAN use google and bing but what I was hoping for is if someone here with a nice looking stealth or airmotiv set up could show a pic of their set up. I'm aiming for a high wife approval factor.

If you can go for the DC-1. I think it is worth the price difference. I do not doubt that whatsoever... And with the non-emotiva set up there is no way to afford the DC-1. The current sale makes it MORE of a possibility but it is twice the price still. What exactly is the difference? I have never had a DAC and I have listened to crappily transmitted music for some time. Even the cheapest DAC that emotiva would put there name on will be better than nothing. The XDA-2 has an extra input but it really wouldn't matter if the TV adds those inputs because everything it needs can be ran through the TV.

I can only show you a picture of the Stealth 8 in combination with a 32 inch TV set (and an XDA-2 as DAC/Pre-amp. The Stealth 6 is definitely a smaller speaker, so this is a "worse" situation. You can use the picture as: "it is not as big as that". This is not the living room, but the basement - which is my territory. _

How, exactly, are you planning on using this system? What are your inputs? Cable box? Bluray player? Any others? If not, you should probably consider getting something like the Oppo BDP-103 universal player and use that as your Preamp/Bluray/DVD/CD player. Mate it up with your TV and the Stealth speakers and you'll have a killer system for very reasonable money.

PS3 as Blu-Ray/DVD/CD player/Netflix/HuluPlus/all our TV - our friends are still children from time to time so RockBand gets busted out from time to time 3. Need to leave room for random crap that gets added later But the PS3 can get run through the TV and really can nearly everything else besides the USB stuff..

I would stick with the XDA-2 and get either an Apple TV or an Apple Airport Express for the wifey's iPhone. Either will let you do 'AirPlay' which allows iDevices to wirelessly stream audio (you'll both like it). AppleTV will additionally let you AirPlay video from your iDevice (iPhone, iPad), mirror the screen on your TV, and stream various services (many you already have on your PS3). It's by far the easiest way to get audio/video from an iThing to your system, either unit is $99 (or save a few bucks and get refurbished for $75). You can put this in the 'random crap' category (but they're very small).

my bad VS890.. i went and got on my computer just to take a better look at it (harder from an iphone). i now see what youre talking about.. it is definitely much nicer! Audio HTIT, we currently use an appleTV on the other system. my only concern is i am taking up an input by adding it to that mix AND more space with the PS3 already there. hardwiring it doesnt make it any less useful for me and i will most likely be using my laptop (and i phone as a remote when necessary). that way i can get better music to the DAC anyway... or at least thats my thought. so less space 90% of the time that she doesnt have to look up, higher quality audio and one less input being absorbed or ran to the TV.. BUT these are all very good options and i HAVE to keep every option open at this time its too bad the stealth6 has such a distinct look.. either love it or hate it. unfortunately everyone i have asked prefers anything else. but i drive a WRX because its more versatile, fun, cheaper, and more reliable than a BMW 300. i feel like thats what im comparing here with speakers. they will both get the job done.. i just want the more efficient, more powerful, cheaper speaker that looks neat.... and i want all my blue lights to match

My setup on a 27" x 60" desk.
27" monitor and Stealth 6 on IsoAcoustic L8R-155 stands, which I bought from Sweetwater for $100 to use on my Airmotiv 5. I now have my Emotiva DC-1 sitting on top of my water-cooled Silverstone SG-05 SFF computer.
The other picture is the old setup with Airmotiv 5. I moved the computer and the EHDs on the left to a microwave cart and set the DC-1 on the SG-05 on the right.
PS. My EARS do not care one bit that the WAF is ZERO.
